Really exciting news for Nettle3 users: I am still testing and waiting to post instructions, but I have successfully installed a fully functional retail BIOSTAR bios to this board.

TheWiz thank you so much for this. I was able to use the linux install method on this board that is on my HP a6700y desktop.
I have a question though regardin the tested CPU. It says in the original post that the "AMD AM3 Phenom II x4 3.4GHz C3 125w BLACK EDITION" will work for this board ( with a better cooling than the oem has.)
I've read that this board is rated at 95W CPU and I was wondering if you had to modify anything to get this 125W chip to work on this board?
Also, has any tested the AMD X6 1035T (95w) on this? I'm looking to test this out if it hasn't been tried yet. If no one has tried this yet, will the 4000 MHz transport prevent this board from supporting it?

Hey Wiz, I would love to try this if it will work with my board. If I should post in a different thread let me know, but here are the details.
Goal: Upgrade to AM3 95w
Mobo: MCP61PM-GM v2.1
Bios: v6.00 PG - I noticed someone else had a problem with v6
I just upadated the start of the thread again with the best instructions, as we had many problems trying to get Uniflash to accept the BIOS. Please follow the instructions on the first post (now upadted) as to making a Live Linux CD and flashing from it, which is the safiest and easiest method.

You should be able to use a Phenom II up to 125W as long as you dont try to overclock, have really good cooling, and even back off the clocks a bit. The board is "rated" at 95W, but I have seen many people put in the 125W cpus and have things run well. My recommendation however is that you purchase a 95W Phenom II such as the 925. As for hexacore support, I never had the opportunity to test that out, but it is possible the last alternate BIOS I posted a page back may work.
Also Trac, you have the "GM" series MCP61, please post your full system configuration so I can see if the board will be compatible (also, if you find that it is a variation of the Nettle3, please start a new thread in the Award Requests section so we can treat it as a seperate mobo)

I'm sure there's more to it, but appears GM is gateway and HM is HP. Nettle3 isn't mentioned anywhere.
Since Uniflash is a problem, and this is an AMI Bios, why not use the AMI flash utility or has that been tested?

Excellent, thank you for the information and reply. I ended up ordering the 125w 965 with a large aftermarket dual fan cooling system to give it a try. I'll do as you said and underclock it a bit and run some benchmarks focusing on cpu and mosfet temps, slowly bringing it up to the original clock. I'll post the results here in case anyone would like this information for future reference.

@Trac - We tried everything, the linux method is the only one that reliably works, AMI Flash won't work because the original BIOS was actually an Award BIOS.
From what you posted it appears it should be a compatible flash, but as we have not tested it it should be considered a seperate board (and thread) and be a flash at your own risk until otherwise tested, flashed, and posted in the confirmed section.

Bus Speed = 200.9 MHz
HT Link = 1004.6 MHz
DRAM Frequency = 401.8 MHZ ( DDR2)
Idle temp = 34 - 35 C
Full load Temp = 54 – 55 C
Ambient Temp = 75 – 78 F ( 23.89 C – 25.56 C )
I will be posting a few cpu benchmarks and the results from even more undervolting attempts at 3.4 GHz and 3.2 GHz in the coming days. Hopefully this helps anyone thinking about using this chip with this Bios.
Note: I’m using the 140W version and would expect the updated C3 125W version of this chip to undervolt better.
**Warning** The CoolerMaster Hyper N620 that I'm using doesn't fit in the OEM HP A6700y case without modifying it a bit. **Warning**
