How To Flash A Modded Bios - Bootable DOS Guide
#11
You can use whatever makes your PC boot a clean (MS-/DR-/Open-)DOS if you put the flashutility and the BIOS-file within the collection.
By the way, welcome to the MCP61-usergroup! Wink

Sometimes you just have to try to be sure it is not working...

Thank you very much MrTangoWhisky. I will try to flash my bios as soon as I have free time.

Which program are you trying to run Jarod. The flasher needs to be launched from pure DOS, a.k.a. the booted dos image you make from the USB. You cannot run a DOS flash application from the windows commnd prompt.

I want to make sure my backup is correct before I flash any mods.
With the Phoenix platform, do I need to change the .exe name from PH1614.EXE to phlash.exe?
If I leave it as PH1614.EXE, should I change the command line to PHOENIX=PH1614 bios.bin

Also, I think I read somewhere that Nettle2/3 doesn't boot from USB, do I need to make a DOS CD also?
Thanks

Hi Trac,

PFLASH is used only for "Phoenix" BIOSes, the Nettle 2/3 uses a "Phoenix-Award" BIOS as they bought out Award many years ago. I have put the recommended flash method up on The Nettle3 thread.

Thanks,

Hi. Sorry for my inexperience. What is the flash utility for Insyde Bioses?

I've tried this with two sticks, and on both the utility gives me the error "There is no media in the specified device" and refuses to format it for me. What gives?

edit: tried the sticks in a different port and now it works fine. However, FAT isn't on the list of selectable formats; only FAT32 and NTFS. Will FAT32 still work?

Does this method work for Insyde Bios?? I have a gateway nv57h44u, and I found that the acer 5750 runs the same bios. I found camiloml's exe in the respository, and i plan to flash asap. I am being prevented from getting my work done due to low graphics memory, need to dedicate more.

If there is anyway you can point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. This community, and bios-mods.com really rock, and I thank all of your for the hard work you put into making things better Smile

Hello, I am totally new to this, so I did all the steps until I should see the progress of BIOS installation, but I just see light gray screen now for 10 minutes... Any solution? Please help!
