Optiplex 320 with Core2 Quad
#1
The Q6600 and Q6700 are supposedly compatible with this system if the latest BIOS is installed. However it is not working (computer won't boot, fan on full speed,...). If someone could please provide me with the Microcodes I would be very appreciative. Thanks.

This system is based on RC415 chipset.
Have any 65-nm Core 2 Duo with FSB=1066 Mhz?
I've found your question - http://en.community.dell.com/support-for...t/20020446
Please attach TXT report of CPU-Z with E6550 after BIOS resetting to default values.

Well. FSB=800 Mhz now.
Code:
Core Speed             1399.9 MHz
Multiplier x Bus Speed 7.0 x 200.0 MHz
Rated Bus speed        800.0 MHz
How you increase frequency to stock value (2333 MHz)?

I'm sorry, what is the question? Are you saying I lowered the core speed somehow?

Your CPU runs with lowered speed now. Are you sure that it can run with normal frequency?

I can't believe I didn't notice that. I've seen other people get better results than me, but right now it's not moving past 1.4 GHz...Intel Speedstep is off, and I'm using a Bitsum Highest Performance Power Plan. Even tried messing with a CPU Core Parker. I got nothing. Any ideas?

The reason is incompatible CPU's FSB. E6550 has FSB=1333Mhz, but RC415 doesn't support it.
You can try to boot Q6x00 with FSB=800Mhz with BSEL mod.
You need to isolate BSEL1 pad with scotch tape. Look at a picture to find the proper pad:

After this modding check Q6x00's speed on other motherboard. E.g. in your Optiplex 780.

BTW: vikigo told you about lowered speed:
Quote:Hi, I have found this PC today and I am going to try q6600 this week, but can you please check your procssor fr. with CPU-Z bcause my E6750 is runing @1.6GHz and FSB is 800MHz.
