OK guys, new TEST BIOS. This is based off the latest BETA BIOS and should add a lot of proccessor fixes and recognition kind of stuff. Please only flash if you have a spare chip or know you can recover.

I am new to this but not new to computers

Would I be able to do this with the
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition AM3 CPU HDZ965FBGMBOX?
or even maybe with this its am3 also
AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz 6 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor HDT55TFBGRBOX
^would this be even worth it? OR would it just be to powerful for the board?

also would this be what i was looking for
http://cgi.ebay.com/Bios-chip-BFG-EVGA-nForce-790i-680i-SLi-Ultra-590i-FTW-/170346800244?pt=Motherboards&hash=item27a975e474
or just "PM49FL004T"<- is this what i need

And also for the programer

Well it does concern me with the 125W wattage so if you weren't going to overclock I would reccommend to you a Phenom II 940 95W. Its probably best to stick with something that is AM2+ and 95W, especially because we know this CPU has been confirmed under the latest P.36 BIOS from foxconn. I'm not saying that the AM3 BE stuff wouldn't work, but this is probably the better route.

Then after you purchase the CPU see how the BIOS gets along with it. We know it does boot and runs stable. Then if you want to get rid of the Unknown CPU in the BIOS you would attempt my own BIOS update, which I doubt will fail which is why I don't think its neccesary for you to go out and spend 40$ on BIOS precautions. If it does brick the board though for whatever reason you could send me your chip and I'd program it free of charge for this test, your call on what you want to do there. Important thing to remember is because I only updated the AGESA, the chances of a failure are small.

Hope this helps, feel free to keep the questions coming Smile

Yes, it runs great. I haven't tried overclocking because I don't think my current heatsink can handle the heat (previous processor was only 65W). Also, I'm using (as stated in a previous post) the EVGA beta BIOS which doesn't have multipliers so overclocking will be limited to FSB overclocking.

There is another issue, which I don't really think is too big. You will want to disable reporting of errors in BIOS (such as keyboard, FFD, etc) because an error will often pop up when resetting the system that settings had been restored to default. This isn't true and disabling errors will let fly right by this. NOW, there are instances where the settings do get reset. This is generally from a cold start, so if you turn of you computer at night you might run into this more often. I turn mine off because it heats up my bedroom. I encounter this maybe once a month?. Not a huge deal. So turning off errors will allow you to get rid of the false alarms. If you do a lot of tweaking/oc'ing, then you will have to restore your settings occasionally.
