[REQUEST] BIOS unlocked HP DV7-5000er
#1
Good day. There is an old laptop HP Pavilion dv7-5000er
https://support.hp.com/en-us/drivers/sel...el/5046705
last bios - https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp54001-5...p54077.exe
Due to the fact that the discrete graphics card is always on, it overheats.
I would like to disable it and leave it only integrated into the processor. What I tried to do:
1. from the site https://www.bios-mods.com/BIOS/index.php?dir=Insyde%2F
downloaded file https://www.bios-mods.com/BIOS/index.php...miloml.exe
an extended menu appeared in the BIOS, but I did not see there an item for turning off the discrete video card and after saving the BIOS the laptop does not start until i take out the battery.
2. tried to make Access Advanced settings through EFI shell, but could not start the UEFI shell, it does not start from a USB disk - it hangs. Clover - crashes with error 0xF

Has anyone encountered such a laptop and modified the BIOS?

Hi!
Perhaps this is due to the fact that in SetupUtility from his mod, 437 bytes are corrupted. I have uploaded the fixed version here.
About disabling discrete graphics... I did not see such options as "Enable" and "Disable" for discrete graphics, but in the "Debug" menu the "Internal Graphic Device" setting has them. Since the video cards are both inside, maybe the discrete one will turn off instead of the integrated? Do you have debug menu?

Thank you !
I will check this bios at lunchtime and unsubscribe right away.
I have not seen the "Debug" menu.

"текст декодирования" ? Smile))
я пытался раскодировать биос, но парсер который я нашел в интернете вываливался с ошибкой на сигнатуру.

Thank you !
BIOS is working, everything can be saved.
Added menu items "Advanced" and "UEFI". But there is still no way to switch videos.

There are two ways, but I'm afraid to try because the purpose of the previously mentioned "Internal Graphic Device" setting is just my guess.
What if it turns off Intergrated Graphics and then you won't be able to boot if we go the easy way?
You can also follow the difficult - the GRUB way with the 0x190 variable and the value 0, but now you hardly understood what I said...

I just do not understand why GRUB?
because now i need to load UEFI and then execute setup_var 0x190 0x0
I will try through UEFI, if it doesn’t work - I’m ready to take a chance and try the first option.

if there is a utility for GRUB - I'm ready to try it Smile))

Ok! If there is no write protection, then there should be no difficulties. Otherwise, this method will not work.
GRUBShell
or you can use RU.EFI utility.

checked.
The UEFI flash drive does not start, even when the "UEFI boot: enable and EFI device first: enable" modes are set in the BIOS. Three types of flash drives: GPT + FAT32, MBR + FAT32 and a hard drive with a 2Gb FAT32 partition.
it looks like UEFI support was not delivered to my laptop Smile
I am ready to take a chance and flash the BIOS with a modified file that will enable or prioritize the built-in video card.

What a shame. Did you really do this? Have you forgotten about the structure?
EFI / BOOT /

Your "built-in" video is enabled by default, but only discrete is operating.
I could set it to switchable and save your laptop, but I guess that wouldn't make you happy.
