[REQUEST] FAN CONTROL UNLOCK for asus rog G56JK
#11
Thanks.. Please see the setup_var guide in my quote above, and disable these two variables and try flash back BIOS again and see if you still get error 280

SMI Lock, VarStoreInfo (VarOffset/VarName): 0xA7
BIOS Lock, VarStoreInfo (VarOffset/VarName): 0xA8

So at grub prompt you will type the following one at a time
setup_var 0xA7 0x0
setup_var 0xA8 0x0

If still same error, then you need flash programmer, or to find which version/method of AFU anyone has used successfully on this exact system before in the past. If different error, then show me.

Alright, I followed the instructions and I no longer receive the write protection error. Attached is a screenshot of the CMD with the command being successful.

I seem to have forgotten to add the attachment

Great! Once I send you a test BIOS, please compare with AMIBCP 4.55 and see if you are missing any settings on pages that interest you, if you are, show me an image of that page so I can see what you have visible vs what needs to be further unlocked.

Please send me images of your BIOS, so I can see what all settings you have on each page, please put them in a zip or 7zip archive too.
Make sure you get an image of each page (Main and exit too), and each submenu's contents too, so I can unlock everything you currently can see that has missing settings. The rest, I will unlock blindly, you will have to check vs AMIBCP after that, or send me new images, to get any still missing items added later.

Thanks for images. Quick test before I unlock the rest, which of these, if either, show you chipset menu.
And if you see it, please let me know if it's empty or you see tons of settings. Test ChipTestSet first, then if no chipset test ChipTestSetBCPS
Flash using FPT >> FPTw.exe -bios -f filename.bin

I used the file chiptestset first and I seemed to have run into an unexpected error and the device restarted on its own. Now I believe the bios might be bricked I see the screen attempting to turn on. I am currently attempting to find the CMOS battery if not I'll just solder on a new bios chip which will come in sometime next week.

Unexpected error, what does that mean, did you see some error mentioned at FPT window?
Clear CMOS wont help. Very sorry this happened, hopefully not due to file I sent and just random error, I will check now and make sure all looks OK.

And Sad I see the issue, very sorry! A padding file above one of the microcode modules was removed on rebuild, I didn't think to check this because it normally only happens when updating microcodes, so I didn't even check since I didn't update microcodes this edit Sad VERY Sorry! You will need flash programmer like CH341A and SOIC8 test clip w/ cable to recover, unless you want to replace the chip, whichever is easier/quicker for you Sad

We may have to find another users full BIOS dump so we can rebuild complete BIOS for you to put on there, you can't simply program in stock BIOS from Asus or your backups we've been using. If you order a pre-programmed chip that is what they'll do often, but at least we'll be able to fix from your current backups you've already made. Hopefully they at least put in FD and ME, sometimes they don't even do that and it wont even boot. You may want to message any seller you purchase from and ask them to be sure to program in FD and ME Region and GbE if it's supposed to be there, simply extracting BIOS body from Asus downloaded .CAP file will not boot the machine without FD/ME region at least.

I don't mind, I knew what I was getting into. I ordered a new chip that will arrive sometime around the 17-26. I'll be back to continue where we left off after I solder the chip.

Very sorry still, I should have checked that!  I usually only see it when updating microcodes, so didn't even think to check it.  Sad  Angry
I need to get in habit of always checking!

You should order yourself a programmer and SOIC8 test clip w/ cable, that way you never have these issues again and can always fix any other board BIOS later too.  It's so cheap, everyone should have a set, long wait for delivery when ordering cheapest but well worth the wait once they arrive.
