[REQUEST] HP Envy 15-j004 (Touchsmart)
#11
RehabMan has a lot of info on DSDT editing, I've saw some of his work playing with fan speed on some HP notebooks, maybe you can try to talk to him, I don't now if he is active here in this forum but you can find him at tonymacx86 or in github, here is his repository for DSDT patched made on HP Probook
https://github.com/RehabMan/HP-ProBook-4x30s-DSDT-Patch

Since it is HP maybe it is possible to do on your HP too...

Maybe it's a silly question, but you don't think that the RSA protection would be blocking this DSDT? (That's why I kinda gave up on it)

Furthermore the idea of using a resistor on the fan is more or less scratched, since I opened it up and it is a 4-wire PWM controlled fan and even if possible it would most probably result in more problems than what I have with the fan.

No, Some bootloaders we use on Hackintosh like Clover and Chameleon can drop the OEM DSDT and use one specified by the user, requiring no BIOS mod... so I think it's possible with dsdt, just need the right patch

Yeah okay I have been tinkering with it and found my Thermal Zone 00 which triggers the fan and I found the hex value for 4600 (46 degrees) which I believe is the lower threshold for when the fan stops again and so on, but I can't test it since there are no good tools for ASL compiling / decompiling as far as I can see.

I tried with Microsoft ASL compiler and iASL, but it seems like most editors are for the Mac OSX and I'm not having much luck setting that up in virtualbox ATM..

If I could get a hold of a mac distro, do you think I could succesfully compile / decompile my DSDT and then load the table in Windows afterwards?

I don't know how to load edited dsdt into windows as I use it on a Hackintosh like I told you, maybe the guys at hackintosh forums like olarila, tonymacx86 and insanelymac have more info on this
but one thing I can guarantee, indeed there are good ASL tools for OS X but I think I're read on some for windows too, just do not remember where

Found it on Olarila, and it was written in Java, hence the cross-platform Smile
BUT I'm still suffering from unfixable errors in DSDT compilation.
I'll ask on Olarila..

Okay I think the final result are that it is not possible to change the fan speed via DSDT because it is simply hardcoded in the BIOS or some other controller in the laptops motherboard.

I think that I'm simply going to have to live with the noise of my fan in HP.
Final: This sucks..
