I guess, it'd require years of development in team of coders, and you need to have documentation for almost every single micro device/chip installed in your laptop. An example of such a project is Coreboot.
But, rather than start contibuting to support outdated solutions, it's obviously better to customize an existing firmware product. And this is what we are doing in this thread!

Hi, it may not be compatible with your devce due to a possible difference in graphics. Compaqs use different firmware for UMA and PEG models.
Are you sure you still want to try?
