[Removed, 8quj06us] Lenovo X121e 3051 BIOS v1.12 Whitelist removal request
#11
Hi,

can someone please confirm that this bios is also for the intel i3- Version of the x121e?

Especially the 3045-7BG

BTW: I got an "original"Lenovo labeled Ericsson f3507g 3G Card (new+sealed) from ebay which does NOT work OOTB in this thinkpad - okay, the manual of the card only mentioned the x200 and sl models, not the x121e..... whitelisting suxx...;-)

Cheers,

Yes, but I also see X121e 3051 which is the AMD variant.

But I was curious and tried it out: seems to work with the i3 version... or better: the included i3 version is also patched.

Thanks,

Cheers,

Hi camiloml,

mind to drop me the WLAN whitelist contents of the AMD and Intel X121e BIOS? I'll try to modify the eeprom of the WLAN card as not everyone dares to use a modified BIOS on a device still under warranty.

Thanks,
jal2

Thanks for the quick reply! Is this the WLAN whitelist for the Intel or AMD version of the X121e?
I've got an 1802 error for my Intel 6250 with ven 8086, dev 0089, subsys 80861311, i.e. the third entry in the list above,
in my AMD based X121e (3051-5YG)

I guess is same for both, did you try other values from list?

No, I still cannot write the eeprom of the card. Actually this card is Lenovo approved (got a so-called FRU) and listed in the hardware manual for model 3501-CTO (mine is 3501-5YG).

I've tried to disassemble the AMD and Intel BIOS of the X121e using Andy's Phoenix tool. Can you confirm that the WLAN/WWAN whitelist is contained in the module called
79E0EDD7-9D1D-4F41-AE1A-F896169E5216.MOD
The infamous string "1802: Unauthorized network card ..." is there and also a binary area resembling your listing above starting at offset 25c (for the Intel version).

Then it seems the WLAN whitelist in the AMD X121e misses the Intel cards altogether. It contains only two entries:
Code:
offset 2ac: ec 10 76 81 ec 10 95 81 00 00 00 00 (Realtek RTL8188CE)
offset 2b8: e4 14 76 05 e4 14 76 05 01 00 00 00 (Broadcom BCM43224)

I'll try to fetch a BCM43224 (not approved by Lenovo Rolleyes) or a RTL8192CE (handled by the same Linux driver as the Realtek RTL8188CE - hope it doesn't rely too much on the PCI ID) and look into adapting it to the whitelist ids.

Camiloml, thanks a lot for your support! Eventually I'll use your modbios when my notebook is out of warranty.

Cheers,
jal2
