P.S. You have had to open a new Threas Request !

Hi BDMaster.  Thank you for your reply.  I taped the pin on the realtek wifi card, since it was recognized but not enabled.
Taping the PIN works on this card.  The card does not seem to perform well, but I think it is a poor wifi card to begin with.
I don't know if this trick will work on Intel Centrino WiFi card, yet, because that card does not appear at all in device manager when the card is installed.
I'll try it out though to see if this changes, and will report back on this.
Thank you again.

Both firmware works.
When patched firmware missing data from the SN, Model etc. I have entered to the DMI tool and the notebook starts. When the notebook starts the message "Machine is not in committed state!" appears. ( But it does not disturb)

The WLAN 7260HMWAN is identified as a wireless card in the wireless slot but Bluetooth is missing. Also taping of PIN51 has brought nothing.
When I install the card in the second slot (for WWAN) the Bluetooth works but the WLAN does not.
In the WWAN slot works the Gobi2000 without problems.

I would be thankful, if you have a solution for my Bluetooth problem.

Best regards

I patched all WLAN - WPAN - BLUETOOTH so only tricks Pin #20 and Pin #51 can do
something yet !
I think It's a Card not full compatible !
So I can rebuid your DMI Data if You want, just let me know

The mini PCIe slot under the keyboard seems to be only for WLAN and does not support USB. The slot under the notebook has only USB.
I'm going to get and check another wireless+BT card (killer). Then I'll tell you, how the tests went.

Thank you for your help again.

Hello.  I have an HP Elitebook 8540w and I'd like to replace the WLAN module with one that supports 802.11ac

I tried searching for BIOS that have already been modified, but I found conflicting or very old info.

Current module is an Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4238&SUBSYS_11118086&REV_35

I'd like to replace it with an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 (2.4/5 GHz) + Bluetooth PCIe Mini WiFi.  I don't have the hardware string as I'd need to install in a notebook to get it.  I may be able to do this, though.  I may be able to take an Acer Aspire One D250 apart and try it there.  Let me know if this is needed.

Here's some info from msinfo32:

System Manufacturer Hewlett-Packard
System Model HP EliteBook 8540w (VD444AV)
System Type x64-based PC
Processor Intel® Core™ i7 CPU       Q 840  @ 1.87GHz, 1867 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
BIOS Version/Date Hewlett-Packard 68CVD Ver. F.23, 3/8/2013
SMBIOS Version 2.6
Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "6.1.7601.17514"

I think this BIOS is not a locked one.

FYI, I replaced the motherboard a while ago and installed the new CPU at the same time.  Don't think this matters, but thought I'd say in case it does.

Let me know any other info required.

Thank you in advance.

FYI, I found a site, http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/...489/page-9, that listed:

Added: BIOS F.22 for 8540p / 8540w - sp57754
Added: BIOS F.23 for 8540p / 8540w - sp61128

I saw in another thread here that sp5*** would be needed. Not sure if I can downgrade to a previous BIOS through the UEFI menus. I might go through the menus to see what shows up.

Is F.23 useable or is F.22 or earlier needed?

EDIT:
Found release notes for the BIOS that indicates that after F.50 is installed, cannot install previous BIOS versions.

Can be found at http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=4097219&swItemId=ob_114868_1&lang=en&cc=us#tab-history under release notes.

The link is for the F.22 BIOS but includes release notes for newer BIOS as well.

I was able to place the new WiFi card in another notebook and get the hardware Id. So, old and new Ids are:

Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN hardware id is:
  • PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4238&SUBSYS_11118086&REV_35

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 (2.4/5 GHz) + Bluetooth PCIe Mini WiFi hardware id is:
  • PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_08B1&SUBSYS_44708086&REV_73

Hi, do you still have working BIOS for 8540P whitelist removal? File on links provided is "deleted", no longer download.
