[Request] Lenovo T540p (GMETxxWW) BIOS Unlock
#1
Hi!
I got a Thinkpad T540p, and its bios got corrupted. When I took it to warranty, they said they have to change the MB and since I have tinkered with it the warranty is voided.
It looks like I can't update the bios by bootable disc or usb, since the PC resets in less than 1 sec. (If there is a way it would be awesome!) So I think I have to flash the bios using external programmers. I don't care about SLIC or any anything since I'm going to install Ubuntu on it anyway, I just want to be able to boot it!

The place I went to program it for me, said they don't have bios files for programming the chips, which should be a 4MB and a 8MB .bin or .rom file.
If someone could help me find them I'd be extremely grateful. I'm just a computer science student who used most of my savings for tha, so it means a lot to me.

Also do they need to be modified since T540p uses a bios certification protection?

Specs: i7 4800m, Nvidia, 730m
Official bios link: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds038148

Also someone posted some backups from his T540p on the forums, I don't know if it's ok to use them or not. (I can't get backup from my own laptop since it doesn't boot at all.): https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-R...s-GMET66WW

These are my hardware backup files from the dead laptop. I'd appreciate if anyone can see what's wrong with them.

4MB chip
8MB chip

Even a hint at where the corruption is would be great.
Or where I can find the backups.

Ok friend,
I will give a look (You said about T540p Dumps It's a Bios Backup only).
I didn't found a schematics for your laptop so if possible to get a MoBo photo
where are Firmware Chips (near Chipset) abd get complete Eeprom Chips name ?
Regards

Ok friend,
We have two Chips and two files :

4 MB File is Bios Chunk and I can Regenerate !
8 MB fIile is EC chunk and I haven't a Dump (It'possible to get only by HW SPIPGM) I cannot Regenerate !

So if It's bad Bios Dump We can Recovery your laptop otherwise only using another Dump can do the miracle or
changing MoBo at Service.
I will upload the 4 MB file Regenerated (a new working Bios injected)
Regards

I could find this so far.
I'll keep asking for chip names. I'll get it opened if I couldn't in 1-2 days.

Thanks a lot!

Really appreciate your time with this. I've prepped a drive (Rufus is a time saver. Found it a while back myself.)

That said, should I remove BIOS passwords or anything before flashing?

I went ahead and removed all the passwords. Figured that it didn't take too long.

I got an error when running the batch file. I powered down the computer instead of pressing enter. Wanted to get your take on it.

Here are updated results of BACKUP_Tools14a. Seemed to actually run now.
