Run WinPhlash without the battery check.
#1
Hi everyone,

I hope this is the right place to post. I have a Toshiba laptop. The laptop wont charge it's battery and the only fix is to update its bios. Toshiba have supplied a BIOS update with WinPhlash v1.6.8.4 (Running on Win7 32bit).

Every time I run it it hangs on the "Flash new bios" stage quoting a Error Code: 144.

This error is due to the battery being below 10% charge however as I stated above the laptop refuses to charge it. Essentially I need to know how to get around that "battery charge check" part of WinPhlash. I read running WinPhlash with the "/forceit" switch will do the trick however it makes no difference with my version.

I've also tried looking for earlier versions of WinPhlash in the hope that they wont do the battery check. I found one 1.3 version that doesn't do the battery check but instead it claims:

Quote:Corrupt interface descriptors in the new BIOS file. Part table signature not found in the interface. Error Code - 161.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks.

Indeed I do. I even have one I can boot into DOS with. What's the next step.

Thanks.

Sorry for the delay. I really appreciate your help.

The package from Toshiba can be downloaded from here:
http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/file/downloa...s_w210.exe

You can extract the bios file and both a 32bit and 64bit version of WinPhlash from there. The laptop I'm working with is a 32bit Win7 so the 64bit WinPhlash can be ignored.

To save you having to do it yourself here's a zip of the WinPhlash folder with the BIOS.ROM that I'm using. However on the off chance that one's corrupt you can redownload it from Toshiba at the first link.

I tried using Phlash17 from a DOS boot as well but that fell over at the battery check as well.

Thanks once again Smile.
