[Unlocked] Alienware M17xR3 BIOS unlock for A06/A07
#1
I have acquired the A04 unlock and it allows you to disable Intel IGP, configure a boot password etc...The 17xR3 I received used the A06 BIOS. I have tested the A04 mod and there are CPU/GPU throttling issues (gtx 580m). Nvidia's optimus will not run several games and no amount of control panel configuration overcomes this issue...there are posts in many places concerning this issue. I would like to disable IGP, that is my goal and I believe a modded A06/A07 BIOS will prevent the issues I am seeing with the A04 mod. I am certain the the 580 will only run correctly with a 6/7 BIOS. A mod would be greatly appreciated.

@alien9001: You should always include a download link to the BIOS for which you request a mod... makes it a lot easier for the BIOS masters here.

Here's the download link to the M17x r3 BIOS A07

BIOS A06 got never officially released, it was only on a couple of machines which got shipped before A07 was released. Same for A05.

Thanks for the info concerning the download link...you are indeed correct about A05/A06 BIOS never being officially released. I received my M17xR3 on 7/27/11 and indeed this was the BIOS installed on the system, when I found a mod for A04 I checked my BIOS to verify what version I was running then reviewed Dells driver page and there were no BIOS releases period at that time. I am somewhat disappointed with this laptop at $2700 & change you wish to run all games old&new with the gtx 580m! I also have a M15x I purchased and received in February (no optimus/intel IGP) with a gtx460m and it is actually a better system at this point. Again thanks for the quick response.

AHMED, Thanks for the response! Since my original post I have flashed to A08, which isn't relevant to my system (no 3d) but overall the system is running much better than it did using A04 or A06! I pulled down the BIOS you posted and flashed the system from windows...the old BIOS shows as A08 and the new BIOS A07 when beginning the process it erases and updates the EC and reboots...that all worked correctly, but when trying to get into setup via F2..screen goes black with the cursor (no blinking) froze in the extreme upper top left of the screen? I can F12 into the boot menu and even proceed to run system tests from there, but I can not enter setup from the boot menu either? I could attempt to flash from an USB boot disk from the eSATA/USB port, but since the flash actually works from windows I do not believe the situation would change? I would really like to have the A07 or even the A08 BIOS unlocked regardless of the fact my system is running somewhat better at the moment...and yes I will donate to be sure! Thanks.

I flashed back to A08 before I replied...I actually flashed from one to the other three times just to be sure that I could not get into the BIOS setup. I really appreciate your help...I will load some funds into my paypal acct. so I can donateSmile Thanks again.
