Upgrade for A11 BIOS?
#1
I'm new to the blog and this website, but i need an answer to a problem that I discovered when I purchased a second hand Dell Optiplex GC620.

In looking over the box, I discovered it had 2 SATA ports along with a standard IDE port for the CDR drive and the floppy.

My hopes were to add another HDD to the system and use one drive for WIndows and the other for Linux. I bought a second HDD identical to the onboard device.

The BIOS shows SATA 0 and 2 are usable but when I plugged the second drive into the empty SATA slot, the system would not recognize the second drive.

I replaced the original with the newer drive and loaded Windows onto it and it works fine. So I know the new drive is working.

Does anyone know if there is a BIOS upgrade that will allow the second SATA port to recognize the second HDD.

Welcome to the forums!

Its pretty hard to tell what's causing it but I doubt that this is a faulty BIOS. My guess is there is a physical hardware issue with the port itself. Also you mention using SATA 0 and 2, with no reference to one. Worst comes to worst you'd have to purchase a new controller, but I'm not familiar with the layout on this mobo.
