X5460 cpu on DP35DP intel motherboard
#1
Hi everyone,

I'm sorry if i'm posting this in the wrong section but I really didn't understand where else to post this.

I have a Intel DP35DP motherboard and Core 2 duo processor, after reading a ton of material and watching youtube videos i realised that i could upgrade to a Xeon X5460 that was modded for socket 775. I visited several websites and asked the x5460 seller also and everywhere I found that my motherboard should be compatible with the X5460. But, now that I got the 775 modded X5460 and installed it along with a new heatsink, my pc does not boot to bios, it just turns on and is stuck in that state, no beeps or worrying sounds whatsoever. I installed the latest BIOS version (released in 2009) i could find for my DP35DP and cleared CMOS by removing the battery for around 10 hours. I have also tried the Jumper CMOS clearing method and nothing seems to work.

When I install the previous Core 2 Duo, everything works fine.

I would appreciate your assistance in this matter at your earliest convenience.

Thank you for reading and hope you all have a great day.

This motherboard isn't compatible with Xeon for LGA771. Its BIOS isn't moddable without hardware programmer.

Hi Deathbringer,

Thanks for your reply.

Can you tell me which motherboard i could buy so I can use the x5460? I prefer a used one that wouldn't set me back much.

Thanks

I've every hardware programmer out there, could you tell me how to mod the BIOS?

Did you tried to boot with Xeon? What was the result?
Make current dump of BIOS with hardware programmer.

boring story short, I'm looking to replace my current P5QL-E mobo (with E5450) because its bios is either buggy or I've messed it up...

So I've found a local ad for an DP35DP. And I'd get it right now (need those 6 SATAs) if I knew that it's possible to get it working with my old E5450.

I couldn't test it with Xeon, so I've just dumped the firmware, and deactivated ME using https://github.com/corna/me_cleaner

Could you please apply the Xeon patches to the bin? Then I'll solder the flash chip back onto the motherboard and report back.

OK so I tested the untouched ROM and with Xeon microcodes and the result is the same: no GPU output, slight hissing sound coming from CPU area a few seconds after power up (total PSU power consumption jumps from ~80W to ~90W), inductors/transformers and transistors/FETs heating up around the CPU (safe temps as far as I can tell), CPU fan speed is very low

With ME patched out and microcodes: CPU fan speed is prolly 100%, rest is the same

If I power on without RAM, it's the same with all the 3 ROMs: it beeps 3 times, then turns the CPU fan to 100%, but no hissing (components still heating up though), total PSU power consumption is ~80W

In none of the cases CPU itself heated up (if it did it's not much at all)
