core quad support vostro 1520
#1
Hello everybody

I am registered recently on the forum, but I come from time to time to do a little tour for many many years,
and today I allow you to solicitation because I would like to install on my dell vostro 1520 a core quad q9100,
I can start the pc with this cpu with a pin mod but shutdown after a few seconds,
I think the microcode is not present in my bios.
That's why I would like to know if anyone can add the microcode on the bios of 1520 from a bios dell precision m4400 that I have in my possession. normally my chipset supports the quad core and my cooling should support the beast,
I had already put an extreme core x9100 and it worked perfectly  (core xtrem & core quad has the same tdp of 45W)

if anyone could do that, I would be eternally grateful to him

Best regards from France

P-S : i have added a zip file with the m4400 & 1520 Bios ROM

Attached Files
.zip   BIOS MOD 1520.zip (Size: 2.14 MB / Downloads: 12)

You can do it yourself. Open in hex editor file BIOSM4400.rom, find the desired block(cpuid=01067A plat B1 ver 0A0C size 0x2000) copy and replace old block(cpuid=01067A plat A0 ver 0A07 size 0x2000) in file _C00.PEI, which will find in folder DUMP when open file BIOS1520.ROM for rebuild in program PhoenixTool.exe where addition set "Allow user to modify other modules","No SLIC" modification.

Well, you can test the value of his platform, to understand in the absence of a suitable firmware it was.
Look value of "MSR 0x00000017 0x001C0000 0xB9F4891C" or "Package (platform ID Socket P (478) (0x7))" in text report program CPU-Z.

Update: platform B1=A0(for modile cpu)+11(for desktop cpu) , so i'm now sure need check platform ID.

Hello and thank you for answering me

I tried to implement what you explained to me but I can not understand how to do with hex editor,
I don't find any 1067A block, I lost a lot of time searching the web to have more precision
but I do not understand the manipulation despite your help

I found it because I already knew what the title of these micro-codes looks like in the hex-editor, samples of which can be downloaded from site . I have already rebuild the file, compared with the original on the difference (in file _C00.PEI you need to do exactly the rewrite of the old block, without increasing the size of the entire file otherwise it will be "bios black edition"), and briefly described my actions.

by bios black edition you mean bricked bios right?

I think the file bios4400 is broken or baddly extracted, when i try to open it with phoenixtool i have an error message

Updating microcode will not help.
This motherboard in laptop doesn't support quad cores CPUs.
But you can try the motherboard's mod for quad core CPU supporting:
