optiplex 390 needs ivy bridge support

Sorry to revive a dead thread, but would it be possible to drop support for SB to save space on the chip and add support for IVY? I have an Optiplex 390 with an i7-2600 and an i5-3550s that I want to use instead. My BIOS chip reads

Such work will cost much more than new motherboard.

This 4MB BIOS chip, but compatible BIOS for your motherboard (with Ivy Bridge support) requires 8MB BIOS chip.

sorry to bump such an old thread, but if I source 8mb chip and replace it, will such a bios mod work? I read something about some person flashing 3010 bios  (same or very similar board, with 8mb chip) to allow ivy bridge cpu's but I'd prefer to mod 390 original bios if possible.
also wondering if nvme module will work.
