[request] Add Ivy Bridge Microcode to AIO Inspiron 2320 (H61 Chipset, BIOS A10)
#1
i have a dell 2320 and a i5-3570k i know the computer can support the i5-2500k because i saw a user upgrade his before to it but before i rip the thing apart i would like to either get its bios modded to support the 3570k or make sure it will work Smile

stock bios is here:

I've inherited an all-in-one from my grandmother and really like the machine. However, the G630 processor isn't cutting it and I happen to have an i7 3770k laying around I'd like to install in it.

The native BIOS allows sandy bridge processors and the H61 chipset supports the ivy bridge. However, Dell refuses to update the bios to include the newer processors, even though they're supported by the motherboard.

I am a hardware enthusiast for nearly 30 years. I've tinkered (and broke) with many things but I just can't seem to find a way to get the necessary microcode into the bios.

Can someone assist me here? I would be willing to do it myself with the correct instructions but am open to the "just do it for me" (read: pay) model if someone would prefer!

Thanks for your assistance!

Todd

Hi,
Do you get anything on screen, is the system posting, beeping or anything?

Best regards,

The computer powers on, the power button turns orange and the system beeps. I think it's four long beeps?

I've removed everything and the symptoms are the same. It boots fine when I re-install the G630 processor.

Thanks for the response. I'm not sure if this is an offer to help or an additional person in need of a AIO Inspiron 2320 bios mod.

Any help?

Best regards...

I'm would really like to get this machine updated so I can use the i7 processor. I'd be very greatful for any assistance as I can only find LGA775 tutorials and some marginally related tutorials on this type of mod. I've tried MMTool and it cannot load the A10.exe bios file. I've extracted the code using 7zip and have no idea what to do with it. MMTools also doesn't know what to do with the contents in the A10.exe file. Any help on where to look?!

I know the chipset supports the Ivy Bridge processors, Dell refuses to update the BIOS to support it.

While I'm still trying to figure it out, I'm open to tipping someone to help.

Thank you.

I will do it for you later, as I am in school for another few hours.

Please note, as I will be replacing your microcode that once you flash your BIOS with this mod, your computer will NOT boot with your old processor unless you revert to the original BIOS.

Is this ok?

So procedure will be

1. Flash BIOS
2. Install Updated CPU
3. Profit???
