I work as a laptop tech for company who refurbished recycled electronics. A few months ago someone recycled an MSI GT83VR, a hulk of a laptop that includes a desktop grade cpu and 2 desktop grade grpahics cards running in SLI. Tragically the previous owner of the laptop had locked the bios, and despite having 4 SSDs in the computer, had windows installed to the 1TB HDD. One of my co-workers has been asking me to build him a gaming laptop for a while now, so for the first time I've decided to tip my toes into unlocking a bios outside of just simply using bios-pw, however, being unfamiliar with things like hex edit, and finding an overwhelming amount of conflicting info online, I've found myself running into a bit of a hitch. At first I simply tried backing up the bios off the chip, then flashing the direct bios file off MSIs website onto the chip, as the hex seemed to be similar/the same, but laptop didn't boot after doing that, so clearly it wasn't as simple a solution as I hoped. I then saw info about clearing the bios NVram online, but didn't quite understand how to do it. I also learned of modifying the bios using UEFI-Edior, which I was able to figure out how to open, I even found a variable that if edited might force the bios to bypass the password? but it was unclear to me how I actually edit the variables. If anyone can point me in the right direction, or unlock the file for me, that would be much appreciated.
