HP 4530s BIOS support for i3-3120ME
#1
I want to replace my 4530s's cpu with an i3-3120ME and I need a BIOS mod to make my BIOS support it.

Specs:

Model: HP Probook 4530s
CPU: i3 2330M
CPU socket: PPGA988
Motherboard: 658341-001
Chipset: HM65
Bios: HP 688srr ver. F.60

PPGA988 is pin compatible with socket G2/rPGA988B.
According to this a replacement cpu needs to fit the cpu socket, be compatible with the chipset, have a tdp that's supported by the motherboard and be supported by the BIOS. The i3-3120ME has all of these things except the BIOS. Sources: cpu socket chipset tdp . A link to my BIOS. The i3-2330m's tdp is also 35W

CPU with Ivy Bridge core aren't supported by HM65 chipset.
You can't buy i3-3120ME cause it's designed for special motherboards (embedded solutions).

This website says that the i3-3120me is compatible with the HM65. Is there a difference between being compatible and being supported?

Does embedded mean that it uses a BGA socket? This website says that it can use both a PGA and a BGA socket. Also it's being sold on Amazon.

Only special motherboards with HM65 can use i3-3120ME, but your motherboard can't.

Can you explain why?

It's hardware limitation.
