Asrock Z77 extreme 6 extended voltage range
#1
Hi bios gurus

i am currently experimenting with ln2 overclocking on a asrock z77 extreme 6.

i could really use some help with modifying the maximum voltages allowed by the bios.

i am looking for the following mods:

- cpu vcore max extended to +2 volt (currently 1.7 v max)
- dram voltage max extended to +2 volt (currently 1.8 v max)
- vccio voltege extended to 1.5 volt (currently 1.2 v max)

-Manufacturer: ASROCK
-Motherboard Model: Z77 EXTREME 6
-Bios revision: 2.90a
-BIOS type : UEFI
-Bios Type: AMI/AWARD

link to bios :http://asrock.pc.cdn.bitgravity.com/BIOS/1155/Z77%20Extreme6(2.90A)ROM.zip

Thanks in advance :-D

I don't see vccio, which page is that on? Are you setup to measure actual voltages, or only going by what you see in the BIOS/apps?
I ask because I am not sure yet if I can edit, but if I can I wanted you to check to see if the changes actually applied or were only visual, that way we'd know if different edit is needed or not.

* Edit - please test, do you get ram voltage 2.xx or does it only appear as a choice and actual applied is still 1.8xx?
If you are not checking with DMM, at least see what software says the applied voltage is, same or now higher?

Hi Lost_N_BIOS
thanks for the quick response

regarding vccio that was a typo. what i meant was vccsa.  Blush

i just tried out the test bios, i can see the 2,04 volt entry for dram voltage. but i can not apply it. when selected it just reverts to original value.

*edit regarding voltage readings, i am relying on Bios/apps for now.
*edit 2 just checked vcore and dram voltage with a dmm, they are reporting fairly accurate in bios (+- 0,01V)

Thanks, I do see VCCSA, so we're settled on that. Thanks for report back about the Dram voltage test, this was only quick dirty way to do it, and I wasn't sure if that would work or not so best to test and find out before doing anything else.

Good to hear DMM is nearly same as software reports, at least now we'll know we can rely on those to confirm changes or not.

I will look at BIOS again here shortly and send new test as soon

* Edit - please explain in detail what exactly happens when you choose 2.004v
* Edit2 - here is same, similar edit, but done more cleanly, may be same result but I'd like to know outcome - http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fil...2925179417

Hi Lost_N_BIOS

I flashed the second revision of the bios you posted. Now i can select and apply 2.04 v, but the bios is still enforcing the old 1,8 v max (confirmed with dmm and bios).

Thanks. So please explain what happened with both BIOS, how it looked when you selected, and saved etc.
That's probably not proper way to do this mod, I only wanted to try it first as it's easy to do, I grabbed that variable from another voltage and replaced the original 1.8V option.

I will try another method now, but it will take me some time to narrow down the exact area holding the setting. Sorry, this isn't something I do normally, so it will take time, and I may never get it done properly. So, if anyone else knows about this, please speak up too, thanks! Big Grin

Hi Lost_N_BIOS

i observed following behaviour with the 2 bios versions.

bios 1: 2.04v entry is visible, but reverts selection to last used value when selected.
Example: old value 1.65 v -> select 2.04v -> hit enter -> value still 1.65v

bios 2: 2.04 v is entry is visble and selectable. but doesnt apply on reboot
example: old value 1.65 v -> select 2.04v -> hit enter -> new value 2.04 -> reboot -> bios measurement shows 1.65 and entry shows 2.04 v

i hope that clears up any questions about how the 2 bioses are behaving.

i am very grateful for your help  Wink

Best regards
Krisjan

Thank you, that info is exactly what I was wondering about, how it acted. This means I can't use the other voltage options as a simple setting swap, I'll have to edit the source of the 1.8v selection in assembly, which I may not be able to find Sad
