[REQUEST] Dell Precision T3500 BIOS Unlock

Hello,

I am not sure how to import UEFI code from one image to another in this case. The major complicating factor here is that UEFI (T3600) and legacy BIOS (T3500) use completely different structures to store data, so the entire BIOS image would have to be rewritten to support any UEFI code.

The T3500 and the T3600 have different chipsets, which means that an attempt to install T3600 firmware (UEFI) on a T3500 (BIOS) should result in a brick, unfortunately.

I found a post on this thread (https://www.dell.com/community/Precision...-p/6231260) about working around the lack of a UEFI boot option. I have attached a picture of the potentially helpful post.

I would imagine that you could boot directly into a UEFI shell on a flashdrive, but it might need low level access to your computer's hardware. Windows 8/10/11 rely on the UEFI to do certain tasks, so those would need to be carried out on the UEFI stand-in software.

I have zero experience with this, though I will do my best to help out with research on this topic.

Hello everyone,

I am seeking guidance and expertise in unlocking advanced CPU features on my Dell Precision T3500 workstation. I have spent considerable time researching and attempting various methods myself but have hit a wall due to the platform's restrictions.
My Hardware:
Motherboard: Dell Precision T3500 (Standard Dell PCB)
$ sudo dmidecode -t 2
# dmidecode 3.3
Getting SMBIOS data from sysfs.
SMBIOS 2.5 present.

Handle 0x0200, DMI type 2, 8 bytes
Base Board Information
Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
Product Name: 09KPNV
Version: A01 | I dont know why it says A01 but my version is A17
Serial Number: ..CN708211CN0V8C.

CPU: Intel Xeon W3550 (Bloomfield)

Current BIOS: Dell Phoenix BIOS A17 (Latest for my computer, non-UEFI)

Goal: I wish to unlock features like overclocking (multiplier/BCLK), MSR control, and advanced power management (e.g., Turbo Boost settings) that are locked down by Dell's firmware.

What I Have Tried/Researched:

BIOS Downgrading: I attempted to downgrade to older BIOS versions (e.g., A14) to see if they had fewer restrictions. The downgrade was successful but did not reveal any additional hidden menus or unlock the desired features.

Software Control in Linux: I am primarily an Arch Linux user. I have extensively used tools like msr-tools to read and write MSRs and cpupower for frequency governance. While I can read registers, critical ones for control appear to be locked at a hardware/firmware level.

Forum Research: I have read existing threads on this forum and others (like Win-Raid) regarding the T3500. I understand this is a challenging platform to mod due to Dell's proprietary Phoenix BIOS implementation.

My Request:

I am asking for help from the experts here in one of the following areas:

BIOS Modding: Is there a known method or modded BIOS module (e.g., for 3C_6.ROM) that can unhide these advanced options for the A17 BIOS? I am willing to test files and provide feedback.

Software Workarounds: Are there any known bootloaders, kernel parameters, or OS-specific tricks (in Linux or even Windows) that can bypass these firmware locks without a BIOS flash?

General Advice: Is what I'm attempting even possible on this hardware, or are the locks physical and unbreakable via software?

My Commitment & Disclaimer:

I am willing to test any software-based solutions or carefully vetted BIOS mods. I have a live Linux USB and am comfortable with command-line tools.

However, I cannot afford to brick my system. It is my primary workhorse. Therefore, I must be extremely cautious with any BIOS flashing procedure.

If a BIOS mod is the only way, I will need detailed, step-by-step guidance on how to:

I need a verified or a "safe" way to do this since this is my main computer, I can afford an CH341A programmer but still better to find a safe way.
Safely flash and, crucially, how to recover if something goes wrong.

And here is also the download link to the latest A17 BIOS:
