Dell Vostro 200 v1.0.16 Experimental Unlocking & Upgrading Project
#21
Just flashed mine with the third, I've been using the raid bios over at thelostbrain.com but his site is down which led me to here. It would be FANtastic if someone could post a bios with slic 2.1 or tell me how to integrate it into the bin file bc I want it for obvious reasons. I'm hoping this project is still going, it seems like it kind of died since nothing has been posted since december.

As for the other guy losing his mac addy I read that his problem happens with the dos flasher and that some switches need to be used when flashing to keep that from happening and here's what was suggested:

awdflash bios.bin /cc/cd/cp/py/wb/sn/E

I don't knoiw if that actually helps or not but good luck to any future ppl that want to flash through dos.

Tried AHCI mode with 3rd BIOS version but it does not look properly supported. When AHCI mode selected in BIOS:
-> SATA disks no longer auto-detected, says "No disk'
-> if auto-detection attempted, BIOS says 136Gb disk installed (2x320Gb HDD in situ), but "no disk" listed
-> After POST: "No boot device" but at the same time reports:
SATA-0: installed
SATA-1: installed
SATA-4: installed
SATA-5: installed

No boot possible, have to revert to IDE mode... Undecided

Met more success with 2nd BIOS version: this one supports AHCI mode properly.

I first updated my Win7 install with the Microsoft Fix prior to changing to AHCI mode in BIOS setup. Then after the change, I had to re-select my HDD as primary boot device (it had defaulted to external drive). It should be noted that all of my SATA drives, including DVD-ROM are now listed as SCSI-x-. For example, my 1st HDD is now SCSI-0-STxxxxxxxxxxx.

After reboot, Win7 detected new HW and installed/activated new drivers: now have AHCI controller listed in Device Manager (see attached picture). Didn't see any AHCI screen at boot-up. Should I see one or is there any specific key combination to enter the screen?

All running Ok so far.

Went back to 3rd BIOS and switched to RAID mode. Again, all Ok. Can't see any significant performance difference between IDE, AHCI or RAID modes, but I guess RAID might be a safer option (even though I have no RAID volume configured).

It appears overclocking options remain without effect, whatever the change: whether I set the CPU clock (the Bus speed I guess) to 100MHZ or 366MHz, CPU-Z keeps reporting my E8600 at standard FSB of 1333MHz.

Will/can there be any further developments/enhancements to this mod?

I've used the second bios in the post. By the way it will make hackintosh work with enabling of ahci. Also added dell slic 2.1 to bios. see attached

Flashed with awdflash bios.bin /cc /cd /cp /py /wb /sn /E

make sure you have backed up your prev bios in case it doesn't work.

I can confirm successful Hackintosh installation with AHCI mode enabled.

Am I the only one that can't get overclocking to work and also raid? Its great to have it unlocked Smile

so you have to use raid for this bios?

For AHCI support -> 2nd modded version
For RAID support -> 3rd modded version

Overclocking is however non-effective...
