I have a question about cpu fan speed on my 5745G, namely can it be controled via BIOS ?

I spend last few days observing CPU temps (CORE TEMP) and relevant cpu fans speeds. I think that the CPU fan rotation speed is not adequate.

Example:

on start up :
cpu temp = 58 C
fan-speed =very slow (level 1)

after 2-3 minute (there is no user activity on notebook) :
cpu temp = 48 C
fan-speed =very slow (level 1)

there is light activity on laptop :
cpu temp = 54 C
fan-speed = a slightly faster than at the start (level 2)

there is moderate to heavy activity on laptop :
cpu temp = 70 C
fan-speed = a bit faster than in case of light activity (level 3)

there is extra heavy activity on laptop, all cores are on 100 % :
cpu temp = 81 C
fan-speed = very fast (level 4)

Now, the most important question for me is: can you modify the BIOS so i can control the CPU fan speed from BIOS ?

My computer cann't flash bios acer 5742?

Same MoBo same Bios

You can try to ue 5742 Bios, but I cannot say the result !
Look for Recovery Procedure to came back if there will be problems !
Try this Procedure to be sure It works on your laptop !
Then You can try !

Recovery Mode :

- Prepare an USB DOs Fat32 Formated Stick and copy Recovery file into
- Shutdown the netbook (notebook)
- Remove all peripheral devices
- Remove battery, Remove AC power cord
- Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds (battery and AC power still out), then release
- Put the USB Memory Stick in the USB port
- Hold "Fn" + "Esc" and plug the AC power cord in
- Now press the power button (whilst still holding Fn + Esc).
Wait until the fan will run, then release "Fn" + "Esc" keys
- The fan will run for about 2-10 minutes and the USB drive activity LED will blink
- I think the netbook rebooted automatically. If it doesn't, unplug the AC power cord once the fan has turned off

The bios should be updated with the modified BIOS, and boot as per normal.

In the 1.11 BIOS (oldest you can still download at their support site), you can turn off the switchable GPU. This is necessary today, because you want to keep up with the NVidia drivers but can only do so if you set this to Discrete (turn off the switching capability).

However, in later BIOS, they turned on Intel VT. So if you use, say, the latest v1.19, you get Intel VT turned on. BUT they turned off the ability to switch the GPU to Discrete graphics only. This would require a driver downgrade back to 2012, and I'm pretty sure that won't work in Win 8.1 anyways.

This is a decent little laptop. It's very old, but with 8GB RAM and an SSD I have had zero issues running Win 8.1, using it as a developer laptop, and even playing some light games like Payday 2 on some pretty good settings. No, it's not Crysis or something, but I don't need it for more than this.

In today's environment of lighter and smaller laptops that have no discrete graphics, this is actually a workhorse machine, believe it or not. The keyboard even types well enough.

If I grabbed the v1.19 BIOS, which has Intel VT turned on (no setting in menus, it's just on), can I somehow mod it to turn on the Discrete graphics setting and extend the life of this thing probably at least another year.

I know a GT330M isn't exactly a new NVidia chip, but the thing works "good enough".

Hi friends,
here is your Bios file v.1.19 Slic Permanent + Menu Tabs unlocked :

Use InsydeFlash to write Eeprom and don't touch significant data as there is the possibility to brick laptop !

Hi! Could you post the file again? It's been deleted from that server. Sad Thanks!!!

Hello All. I would like to request that someone please unlock my BIOS's graphics mode setting so that I could switch to discrete (from switchable) so that I could attempt the upgrade to Windows 10.

An older build of the BIOS allows us to switch to discrete but the latest driver which enables VT has the graphics setting disabled.

Here's my current BIOS: http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/...ER&SC=PA_4

Thanks you for your help.

Hi BDMaster. Thanks for your help.

I flashed the BIOS and now it is reporting version 1.16 instead of 1.19. I noticed a number of new option pages has appeared, but the Graphics mode is still grayed out.

Maybe I should just live without VT by flashing to v1.11?
