Dear genius 39 maybe you can help me if you have the time i have a xeon x5460 and an asus P5WDG2 WS Professional bios version 1001 but i still have the message eror in the bios that i have to update the bios to unleash the power of the CPU can you plese help me thanks i will appreciate your effort thanks.

This motherboard seems don't support fsb1333 cpu,so it should runing at fsb1066 and
has a error message!! I don't found ver 1001 bios on asus website.I only find the latest ver 0905.
Could you post a cpu-z pic?

You must to use more than 965 chipset motherboard that must support fsb1333 or
you can close F1 error message on bios and contiune to use it.

I the windows i can se it good but the bios is the problem i uploaded the 1001 bios can you please make the modification i can not give the photos because after 10 minutes of use i recive a restart and again i have to set it in bios .The bios 1001 it supose to have all the microcodes but i have the seame problem the bios is from another site thanks.

Dear Genius 39 and Adri1985,

May be its too old now but I have the same mainboard P5WDG2 WS Professional which run C2D E6600. After SSD upgrade, I found a cheap Xeon L5420 on aliexpress and want to refresh the old desktop to pass to my kids. At first, The Xeon doesnt boot (bios 0905). After searching, I found mod bios 1001 in this forum and try it again. It show the Xeon at boot, however, in Win 10, the PC still show E6600. CPUZ recorgnize Xeon but only two cores, then after restart, bios show not fully accept CPU, need further bios update then windows 10 shwo BSOD. Have you mod this 1001 bios to fully working?

I flashed successfully your Bios 1001 (from 0905). Now my PC can recorgnize Xeon L5420 but not fully working (boot to win but crash on restart). I heard there are other version of 1001, its best if you could share to me. Or show me how to mod the 1001 to fit L5420. Thanks

Update: I found way to modify 1001 version of Asus P5WDG2 WS Professional to work well with L5420. Great forums. i975X can run Xeon 771! (attached mod bios for Xeon 771 on Asus P5WDG2 WS Professional)


My next target is to run Xeon 771 with my old man PC: HP Pavillion g2075l which originally run Pentium D 820 (Radeon xpress 200 chipset). With modified bios, it run my old Core2Duo E6600 perfectly at full speed (2,4Ghz, 1066 FSB) even HP allow only C2D E4400 (800 FSB) max. Will it fit Xeon E/L 54xx?
