Acer aspire s7-392-9439: default boot device missing or boot failed.
#1
Hi,
I bought an Acer aspire s7-392-9439 3 months ago. It's been working great, until yesterday.
I turn on the computer and it poped a blue screen with the error: "default boot device missing or boot failed".
This error reminded me that a message about a bios update poped out a few days ago and I diden't get the chance to install it.

I've contacted acer support, they told me the bios update would have prevented this problem. Also, they told me to try some stuff that may help, but unfortunately none of them did:
1. Restoring the bios settings to default.
2. Changing bios settings: uefi to legacy.
3. Tapping winkey+c on computer boot.
4. Creating a USB DOS bootable media gets me to a cmd line, but when I call the isST2212.exe it popes: "This program cennot be run in a DOS mode".

When those options failed they told me it's probably a hardware problem and I should send my computer to thier repair center.
My questions are:
1. If they bios update would have prevented the problem, how can it be a hardware problem?
2. Does anyone know how to fix the problem?

I would really appreciate your help,
Michael

sounds like a hard drive error. you may have disabled or enabled legacy boot which may have caused the problem. i'd make a bootable linux usb. if your computer boots linux and runs it fine, it's likely you will need to replace your hard drive, which isn't difficult.

Hi friend,
there are two scenarios Always :

1. Bios Update goes well and all work
2. Bios Update not goes well and laptop Brick

So in your case may be there is an error into settins (CMOS or Eeprom chuncks) You have to try to Reflash the same Update file (same Bios You have into Eeprom).
Can You open Setuputility Menu ? can modify your settings ?
Let me know

Thank you guys for unswearing.
I am able to get into the bios menu and change the settings. I've tryed setting them to legacy and loading the bios update from a usb, but when i got to the cmd screen and tryed to run the exe file of the bios, it poped the message: "his program cannot be run in DOS mode".

What can I do?

You cannot run Windows Program on Dos so or We have to find a Dos Tool to flash It or use a LiveUSB with Mini Win7 S.O. integrated like this one :

http://www.rmprepusb.com/tutorials/hbcd

https://kickass.to/ultimate-dlcd-boot-20...99011.html

http://torcache.net/torrent/09014019C98E...ent?title=[kickass.to]ultimate.dlcd.boot.2014.v1.mini.windows.full.cd.boot.rescue.2014

It permits to launch windows program as normal !!!
Let me know
