Alienware m9750
#1
System is running a stripped down version of AMI Bios, but what I want to see about modding is the memory address space.
Problem is Alienware says the system supports 4GB of ram, Sure Bios sees it....but it also says 2559MB usable which is what windows reports. So I am to believe that they did not add enough address space. Or because my laptop has duel mobile m9750 gtx grafic cards which combined total 1GB of video ram so is my BIOS addressing the Vid Ram? I dont see it and would be a ripoff is so. so theres my delima....Help

That sounds like your problem my friend

Windows X86 (AKA 32 Bit) can only "See" and use 3.5gb of RAM. If you have dual video cards which total 1gb RAM then this is taken off the max amount of RAM , leaving you with 2.5gb usable.

Upgrading to a 64 bit version of windows would only see 3gb though , as 1gb would still be taken off for graphics. I have this problem myself , despite having 3gb RAM installed , windows reports 2.5gb usable (Because of my 512MB video card). Even having a dedicated video card , it still borrows memory from your system , thats why "Shared Graphics Memory" under Windows Experience index is always higher E.g. I have 3gb RAM , 512MB Video Card , Yet Windows 7 says i have 1792MB Shared Graphics memory)

Sorry

Now my desktop does not have that problem, I have 4GB ram and duel vid cards totaling 1GB ram running a 32 bit windows vista and my usable memory in 3.5GB. Now this tells me that the System BIOS is addressing the System ram and the Video card BIOSes are addressing the Video ram.
Now this #&#!$^@! Laptop which is suppost to be Mobile Video cards which house their own Ram.....and perhaps some FW/BIOS to do its own addressing??? Sorry about the rant, anyway
I have been digging around withAMIBCP and all the other testing I have done and ....... I have to agree :-( . I just needed someone other then myself to confirm. Thank you
