Asus M3A78-EM, & M3A78-EMH HDMI HP 2.1 SLIC
#21
(07-30-2009, 05:49 AM)1234s282 Wrote: buy an expensive board that has all the features already
Well, that does have everything I need (besides the SLIC 2.1 obviously!)

All AM2+ CPUs with up to 140W TDP -> all of them
4 DIMM slots of DDR2 1066
PCIe 2.0 x16 and one PCIe x1, two PCI
6 SATA ports and eSATA
12 USB2 ports
Good enough video card with D-Sub, DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort
Gigabit Ethernet
8-Channel High Definition Audio
Firewire

I'd say it does have everything I'll ever need! It's just the crappy ASUS AMI BIOS. If that's what I can expect from ASUS, I'm not buying their motherboards anymore. Hopefully someone figures out that ASUS problem soon.

Hi pftr34a ..I`m thinking similarily to yourself also.Ditch those Bums!! LOL. These are nice Boards when you can get them to work right.. Right now The Score is 0 for 2 for the Asus Boards . After trying The 2`nd Bios Mod. ,with Win.7 64 bit installed, I Started Getting Freeze ups and Blue Screens just like I get with Vista Ultimate @ 32Bit.. at least this Junk is consistent.!! LOL.. I rolled back from the Modded Bios to the Factory "un-touched" 1902 Bios.from within windows Vist,(I have both Os`s installed on different Drives) and the Freezing and blue-screen remained. I then tried to flash the 1805 Bios with the utility that is in the Bios itself called EZ flash or Something like that, and got an error saying"Boot Block in File not Valid"..I`m not certain why yet, but the Bios # 1805 has never been modified, and should have installed without any Problems.I`m going to try with The Afudos utility next and see what happens then.. I`m just curious if you`re getting glitches also?.. I know it`s that Atikmdag Driver that`s at the bottom of all my Glitches.I`haven`t been able to get that ATI Catalyst Crap, that they call software,Working on either of my Boards in 2 years,of effort.Angry Everytime I try to CrossfireX with that software I have nothing but Glitching and My Computer becomes unusable.. I get Rid of the ATI Software, and Gradually my System will stabalize..I feel like I`ve been doing nothing but Beta Testing for AMD/ATI,and ASUS..They`re all going on My Chopping Block, if I can`t get this stuff to work soon. well the AMD processors arent too bad ,but,I`ll buy other brands next time. Oh well,Back to my Daytime,, Nightmare..LOL

I've had 0 glitches, hiccups or BSODs with those boards, ever. Not even once. 100% reliable since day one, with either Vista or Win 7.

I'd just hate having to use a crappy unreliable "loader" instead of having a proper SLIC 2.1 in the BIOS.

Really? Which video Card are you using? Processor?Memory? Power Supply? I`ve Tried everything, Liquid cooling, New power supplies, Hard drives, Memory,Memory cooler, cables.OverClock ,Underclock,Leaving everything in Auto in the Bios, different Processors..Nothing Makes a difference, until, I get rid of that Hybrid CrossFireX software. Then I can get it to stabalize eventually by using either the onboard, or add on Graphics Individually..I like these Boards Features,It can do what I want. BluRay& HD Video capable,(looks Great)good Sound..I just can`t get Hybrid CrossFireX to work as advertised... I paid for it,,,Twice..!! I want it to work!! ...LOL,, my problem is, I just don`t know when to give Up..LOL...When I bought the M3A78-EMH HDMI board. They were being sold, and the Software for Hybrid CrossFireX wasn`t even Made yet..I didn`t find that out until I got home and read the Manual..That was Dissapointment # 1.. Undeveloped Software for Brand new Hardware..My experience has been ,,that,,It`s Still not Right..anyways enjoy the day..

Video card is the onboard Radeon HD 3200.
Processor is an Athlon64 X2 with stock heat sink and fan.
Memory? Don't recall and too lazy to go look. Probably gskill.
Power supply is a corsair.

There's really nothing special about it. It's been rock stable. I'm not using CrossFireX though as I have no need for that.

These both have HP 2.1 SLIC Like you requested. Just in case your still using Xp , they also have HP SLP 1.0 for Xp Activation too!

Flash at your own risk!

Hello, my apoligies if im bumping this, but it seems the M3A78 EMH HDMI Bios does not contain a 2.1 SLIC.
Ive attempted to put an 2.1 Dell SLIC in it myself, wich resulted in the same.

It seems the original BIOS already contains a 2.0 SLIC wich doesnt seem to want to be overwritten, i have yet to find a solution for this.. maybe someone here can enlighten me ?

Thanks in advance.

Ohh, I see..Yes, My computer is very Stable too, if I use only the HD-3200 built on Grapics, or, the Radeon HD-3470 add-on Card.As soon as I get them Running in CrossFireX,with that ATI Catalyst Software,That`s, when the Machine, Becomes a real Terd..

See this post! (Yeah, that's also me -- random nicks everywhere hehe)

For those wondering, I changed 3 options under advanced:
-Checked "Replace 1B module"
-Unchecked "Only replace OEM ID in additional tables" (2nd from the top)
-Checked "Replace split OEM/Table ID strings" (2nd from the bottom)

Then pick a SLIC 2.1/SLP, dynamic and hit go.

Amazing, it worked!

How'd you find this ? trial and error ?

Here is the M3A78-EMH HDMI 1107 SLIC(HP2.1) bios, Tested & Working!

Lots of reading, plus trial and error. Seems like that should solve the problem for all AMI BIOS on ASUS boards.

Hi Guys..
pftr34a great find ,and Thanks for Posting here.. I got something to share now too.. I`ve found (Stumbled on to it) the New ASUS Bios Loader for XP,Vist, and #7. I actually found it Yesterday at the ASUS Site,Unfortunately I can`t give you the Addy to go and Download from There,Because I Crashed (AGAIN) right after getting the Downloads from there, and Lost the Address. Anyways you can`t find the Downloads through the Normal Channels, because I`m Guessing that they`re waiting For The actual Release date of W.#7 before it gets publicized.

I used this Loader to install that Bios you linked to..I unchecked the "Clear CMOS and return to default" settings in the Installer software,so I wouldn`t have to Re-set all my Over-Clock ,Voltages, and memory settings. The Install went extremely Smooth, and Basically was Automatic except, for The Certificate and Key upgrade, which I did manually in just a couple easy steps, all from within Windows 7.. My Steps for install are linked in a file here called,"Validating.zip".It`s all common Knowledge but ,The Knowledge is scattered all over the internet. I just wrote it to a Text file, so that it`s not such a bugger to find the info, for other people.

I`m not sure if we`re allowed to post Live links here so Here`s a Small File on how to get to These files including the Slic 2.1 Bios.

I`ll be adding some more Asus software for W.#7 as I test it, and Verify that they are working. So Keep an Eye on that Address for more Files.Big Grin

OH yeah, By the Way Guys and Gals if You Run into a Modded Bios for ASUS Branded OEM Please come Back and Share..Thanks everybody !!Wink
