Asus P6T modding
#1
I’m trying to get access functionality for an Intel Xeon W3690 on an LGA 1366 Asus P6T motherboard.

According to various forums the W3690 is supposed to be a server version of the Intel i7 990X (extreme) so theoretically it should work. However it doesn’t. After reading a bit more there is
only one version of a Xeon that works on the P6T. I consulted Asus about it and the agent I spoke to
stated that the W3690 would not work and was adamant that it is not the same as the I7 990X. In anycase my bios version was quite old (2009) so I updated it with additional support for the 990x cpu to the still old 2010 version. I’ll give the w3690 a whirl tomorrow to see if it works. Moving on, if that doesn’t work then I read in another forum that it might be possible to modify the bios to accept the cpu so I have come here to request clear and concise advise on how I would allow my Asus P6T to accept Xeon W3690 functionality.

Many thanks.

Explain exactly what happens when you try to boot with W3690 and BIOS version 1408.

Ok. My first try at booting the w3690 crashed at the windows 10 login. The second time i am in and appear to be running stable so its true - the i7-990x is a w3690! Only issue is Real temp is only showing 3 cores active, piriform speccy is showing 6 cores, and cpu-z is showing 6 cores.

So it works! Give it 48 hours. any issues ill report in.

It's all OK now. No mod is needed.
