BIOS does not like fan, I improved cooling in B50-30, but BIOS does not like fan
#1
Hello!

I modified laptop - Lenovo B50-30 with Celeron N2840.

Belive or not but this laptop comes WITHOUT ventilation slots and WITHOUT fan. There is only Ship like this on CPU: http://pl.tinypic.com/r/4gke1f/8

But i found power connector for fan on mainboard.

So i modified laptop: http://i59.tinypic.com/delpp0.jpg added fan and made ventilation slots: http://i57.tinypic.com/eqnmhc.jpg

***

Fan starts when i turn laptop on.
Fan starts when i run Lenovo dust removal.

But fan does not start when i run benchmark and CPU temperature goes up.

I installed SpeedFan - does not work.
I installed TPFanControl - does not work.

But TPFanControl shows something like this in status: Fan: 0x40 / Switch: 97°C ( 0; 0; 0; 0; 0; 0; 0; 0; 97; 0; 0; 12; )

I belive that fan controller is turned off in BIOS or locked on 97°C.

***

BIOS/UEFI:

Insyde

9CCN33WW(V2.11)

https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/9ccn33ww.exe

***

Am i right? Is there a way to change fan behaviour? How to unlock advanced options in bios? Is there any fan control option?

Use AIDA64 tool too (cracked version to get FULL REPORT) and upload a Report too

let me know

I have the same issue on Lenovo B50-30, got my fan and radiator from B50-45: at15l0030f0f dc28000enf0fcc2
PWM is what prevents you fan from spinning. You can make you fan spin without BIOS modifications, if you unplug PWM contact from fan connector, however fan will be uncontrollably spinning at maximum speed. I added 20 Ohm 2 Watt resistor on plus cable (adding more than 20 Ohm will result in fan not spinning, I tried 20.52 and 21 Ohms - no result). Besides that if you add thermal pad on a metal plate on the other side of CPU you can extend your radiator to notebook metal casing and keyboard, making CPU a bit more cool than it is. Despite fan spinning and tachometer pin being conected I couldn't manage to see it through different software means (AIDA64, HWMonitor, NoteBook FanControl etc.). My fan is a little bit noisy btw, but without using PWM it's the best it can get.
Photos of all modifications and temperatures on different radiator variations with fan and without: https://yadi.sk/d/lUMgJtysNwyZaQ
All tests were with added thermal pads, thermal compound is Arctix MX-4

I've tried installing TPFanControl and got the same results - you can offset these figures through .ini file making it whatever it is you want, however it's not going to make your fan spin.
