Core 2 Duo E8500 support on Asus P5K31-VM/3CH
#1
Hi. Can anyone here help? I'm looking for the latest bios for the Asus P5K31-VM/3CH, which seems to be an OEM board for the Medion PC MT 7. I recently bought an E8500 which has a TDP of only 65W, to replace the Q9300, which has a TDP of 95W. It's to convert the computer to a media center and run on low wattage. I've looked everywhere and can't find an updated bios for this board (or much other info on it to be fair). The bios version I'm running at the moment is 0009. I would have thought that "downgrading" to an older cpu, would be automatically supported, but apparently not. When I try to boot the pc with the E8500 in, it just hangs at the Intel logo (bios post screen). I have attached a backup of my current bios. Also, if someone could modify it to support the E8500, without spending hours of your time on it, then I would be very grateful. I have no idea where to download the latest bios, or if I'm even running the latest bios. Any help would be appreciated. There's doesn't seem to be any info on the Asus website, or the Medion website. There are similar named boards, but they don't look the same as mine. If you need any more info, just let me know.

Hi. Thanks for the quick reply. Here are the screenshots you requested.

Make a photo (from top) of your Q9300 and E8500.

Here they are. I've altered the brightness and contrast a bit to make the writing a bit easier to read.

Install supported CPU and enter in BIOS.
Go to Boot->Boot Setting Configuration and make a photo of the screen.

Still a bit blurred though. This'll make it easier.

The E8500 reads:
INTEL '06 E8500
INTEL CORE 2 DUO
SLB9K MALAY
3.16GHZ/6M/1333/06
Q832A131

Q9300:
INTEL 06 Q9300
INTEL CORE 2 QUAD
SLAWE MALAY
2.50GHZ/6M/1333/05A

I see that Full Screen Logo is disabled.
So install new CPU now and try to boot.
Make a photo of result.
