DV4-2170US BIOS hack request to enable mSATA slot
#1
Hi,

Own this HP Pavillion laptop since 2009, it has been very good and it wasn't until yesterday that I noticed that it has a slot that can fit a mSATA card.

The thing is that it is only enabled for WWAN cards, as I kept reading for hours found that some bright people (Members of this forum) can actually alter the stock BIOS and enable the slot to accept mSATA cards.

I hope someone here can help me with my dependable laptop Smile

This is how the slot looks:

Thanks and of course I can send some cash as a donation for the hard work Big Grin

Hi friend!
Some motherboards HP dv4 have 2 slots Wi-Fi.
A slot with standart Wi-Fi card always checking by BIOS for whitelist.
A second slot near battery or empty not checking for whitelist.
Did you disassembling laptop?
Attach your mSATA card to empty slot and enjoy!
This slot must be enabled by default because i have experiense with 2 wifi card together in laptop. The card in second slot not passed by whitelist when it located in first slot.
If your motherboard contains only 1 slot try to find a modded bios with removed whitelist.
Of course, then your laptop will working without internal Wi-fi card but with mSATA card!

Hi Da Vinci,

I did install the mSATA card on the second slot but it wasn't recognized by the BIOS or the Windows 8 OS.

This is what I will do next, I will try to install the mSATA card where the wifi card is currently installed and see if it's recognized then and will report back if I had any success.

One thing I think I need is the hacked BIOS to help the motherboard identify the card.

This is a six year old laptop but it's in great shape and I will like to squeeze a couple more years out of it  Big Grin
