Dell E1505/6400 A17 BIOS Battery Issue
#1
-Motherboard Manufacturer and Model = Dell Inspiron 6400
-Bios revision. = A17
-Bios Type = Award (Phoenix)
-Bios Link = ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/MM061A17.exe

I've just about had it with this computer's proprietary chip in it that causes this problem which is detailed out here:

http://www.laptops-battery.co.uk/blog/de...-solution/

If I am not mistaken, there's got to be a way to mod the bios to keep this from happening. Lots of people know about this and this issue happens in MANY models of dell laptops.

If this can be edited so that it really works and gets rid of this issue, it would make a lot of people happy. I would even maybe be willing to pay to have someone fix this bios so this problem goes away.

Thoughts?

EDIT: I posted this in the wrong forum, sorry. This should be in Award bios section.

I know that and that's a bad thing.
Ofcourse laptop see charger connected since can read one wire eeprom but charger doesn't provide any power to laptop since it's unpluged.
That bring thgis error, laptop think charger is connected but charging voltage is 0.
Just unplug charger from laptop and not charger from main power source.

well, the best way is test with new correct charger.
sometimes, dell charger work only power on, no batter charging, and keep error message when it turn on.
it looks like mainboard faulty for battery charging chip or something.
good luck

Buying a new charger always fixes this problem.

I doubt it's the motherboard. In some cases for people it has been, but it's widely known on the internet that this model of computer has an issue with the adapter. Little wires bend and break inside and change the voltage. This change sets off the AC adapter cannot be charged message. NORMAL use can cause this problem.

It's significant as well that if I hold the back end of the wire and straighten it out, the machine doesn't give me the error. There is definitely enough voltage coming out of it to charge the battery otherwise this simple trick would not work. The problem is that it's extremely frustrating to do that and it doesn't always work.

People have asked for a BIOS mod from dell over and over to turn off this feature and they refuse to do so.

I subscribe to Jcink's request and I confirm it's an issue happening to thousands of Dell E1505 owners (me included), if not more.
Another BIOS related issue is when you have your 1 year old, seldom used battery having enough life in it, is overnight declared almost dead. What I know is that BIOS reads the battery EEPROM, extracts the number of power on/off cycles, and if it is, let's say 300... boom! you got a dead battery message and the charger refuses to charge it anymore. This is a typical blackmail that Dell is using to force us buy new chargers and batteries.

You have now the clear image of our frustrations, the anger we have when assisting helplessly to that kind of theft. So I am asking this BIOS modding community to help us have our revenge and hack their BIOS to suite our needs. Or at least tell us what tools we need to reverse engineer it, mod it, and recompile it.

PLEASE.
