E4500 on Intel D101GGC
#1
Hi

So I have a "Intel D101GGC" laying around and a "Intel Core 2 Duo E4500", and I want to pair them, and I know that the board doesn't support any Core 2 processers, and it doesn't post with the cpu installed. But the "ATI Radeon Xpress 200" chipset on the board does support older 65nm Core 2 processors, so I want to ask if you could add the microcode for the cpu.

CPU: Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E4500
Model: SLA95
Speed: 2.20 GHz
FSB: 800 MHz
Lithography: 65nm
TDP: 65w

Motherboard: Intel® Desktop Board D101GGC
Board revision: 035788-304
BIOS version: 0313

Edit:
It seems that the "ASRock 775Twins-HDTV R2.0" supports Core 2 Duo's, but the E4500 strangely isn't listed http://www.asrock.com/mb/ATI/775Twins-HD...0/?cat=CPU (the E4400 is).

Could you also add SLIC 2.1 if possible?
Thanks

I switched the Core 2 Duo E4500 out with a Pentium D 945 from an other machine, so it doesn't really matter anymore.

hmm, you got a Pentium D 945 CPU to work with your Intel D101GGC board, Unlocker9000?

I thought that 945 CPU required the Intel D101GGC board with revision D35788-308 or higher as noted on the Intel web site, but your board is revision D35788-304.

I've recently ordered a used D101GGC board but mine is revision D35788-305 and it came with an Intel Celeron D 2.53Ghz CPU and recently updated the board's BIOS from version 0304 to 0313. If I were gonna use any Pentium D CPU with the D101GGC board, I'd get a stronger PSU (Enermax, Antec, Corsair, ThermalTake, OCZ 400w/450w or higher) along with a strong CPU fan since many Pentium D chips burn up hotter than a toaster oven.

Edit: I found an old Tom's Hardware forum thread here where someone attempted to run an Intel Pentium D 945 on an Intel D101GGC board with bios update 0313 but his board was revision AAD35788-304 and his computer kept on crashing and producing BSODs.

I think adding microcodes alone for the D101GGC board isn't enough to run the E4500. Adding SLIC 2.1 on the other hand is easy with award slic tool.
