HP A8MN-BR Hematite Athlon II Upgrade Request
#1
I have an HP Pavillion s7747.de. The motherboard of this Computer is ASUS A8MN-BR. This board is produces only for HP and you can't find anything about it on the ASUS homepage. Unfortunately you can't adjust very much in the BIOS. Is it possible to unlock this BIOS? I do not need overclocking options but it would be interesting changing the SATA-controller to AHCI (instead of IDE-mode). And it would be nice to update the CPU-Microcode (I always see "unknown AMD CPU 2x 2600 MHz" on the startup screen). Is it possible to modify the BIOS for newer CPUs e.g. Athlon II or Phenom (I tryed Athlon II once but only got black screen)?

Information about motherboard :
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c00783657

(it also works with 45W max. TDP :-)

HP Bios-update:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-54353-1&lc=de&dlc=de&cc=de&lang=de&os=2093&product=3369918

download sp35154.exe and opening ZIP-package in Winrar. In ZIP-package have \504.rom.

Ask more information, if you need it

Hey Mate

Sadly there wasnt anything to unlock in here but i can help on CPU support. This thread has been moved to the correct place!

Your current bios has CPU Support For The Following:-

Quote:AMD Engineering Sample
AMD Processor model unknown
Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor 12
Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor 22
Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor 82
Mobile AMD Sempron™ Processor

AMD Sempron™ Processor
AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Processor
AMD Athlon™ 64 FX
AMD Turion™ 64 Mobile Technology MK
AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-00

If you wish to take the risk and flash my mod , i have attempted to add support for the following CPU's :-

Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor 12
Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor 22
Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor 82

Hello,

About a week ago, I decided to add come extra CPU support to my HP Slimline s3120n (Motherboard, HematiteXL- an upgrade of the original Hematite, and the center of a recall scandal). I've tried all I could, and finally found a version of Award BIOS Editor (1.25, but it states 1.00) that could view the BIOS CPU Support table. At this point, before I found out from this forum I could extract the BIN file... I almost lost all my hair by pulling it out.

Am I correct in (from what I have gleaned off of this forum), I am to find a similar motherboard that has support for the CPU I want, and take that CPU table over?
If so, what defines similar? Same chipset? Same northbridge?

If not, can I manually edit this BIN file? A Unicode HEX editor just reveals nothing legdible (to me, and I like to believe I can read anything my computer may put out!).

Thank you!
-Jeremy
Okay, this:
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Mothe...uctID=2281
is the most similar I have found as of yet. I am now gonna see if AM3 is possible here!
Okay, I looked at the CPU support list... dissapointing?

Anyhow, I need a BIOS (AWARD) for a MCP51 type board, with the nforce 430 setup (2 chips, not one), with the PVG51 and the southbridge.
Thanks!
Okay, I found another with the same chipset, same socket, just with some real AM3 support!( I have a 65W tdp budget here, too!)
What does AGESA mean? Is it the CPU support table? Or some extra function seperate from it?
Okay AGESA and CPU Support table are different. Do I need both at the same time?

I try, my friend.

I am capable of doing this, but I think the Admin would take interest in this, seeming as it is our new support area, where this should've been posted. As for the situation. You can download the bioses of both the board you have and the board you want that has the CPU support in it. If you google CBROm and download it you can simply extract and replace the AGESA and Power tables, but I would wait for a pro like the admin to do it, seeming as how I am low on time as of now.

Thank you, I got 2 different HP Slimline motherboards, but I'd hate to lean on other people. I will post the results.

Thanks!
-Jeremy
Curses. I'm having serious trouble getting anything to work right!

Where can I find the newest version of CBROm?

I have 1.82, and it's giving errors everytime I try to do anything (specifically, load up a modded BIOS from AwardBIOS Editor).

I'm on 7 x64 (rtm... MSDNAA ftw?)

I try, my friend.

Hello,

Thank you for helping me (and for putting this thread in the right area)!

I got overwhelmed in just trying to find an appropriate 'similar' motherboard (same 2 chip chipset configuration, nforce4/6150, AM2 socket...), a few boards from Gigabyte and ASUS seemed to fit the bill, but I am as of yet unsure of what I really need to do. It seems like I need to get the ACPI and CPU table over?

The later revision (HematiteXL -> Acacia) changed quite a bit, too! Aparently Acacia removed the CPU table requirement? (I need to check on that, as I have access to an Acacia). I tried some of the basics of ABE (CBROm with a GUI), and didn't get too far, but I know how to flash a BIOS properly, now.

The processor I hoped to add is:
AMD Athlon II X2 250 Regor (AM3)

It is this:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00910076&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3440605
motherboard, and it is nothing like the Hematite (from my limited knowledge of BIOS editing/upgrading) , so I couldn't use the other mod posted here for help.

This:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-60274-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3440605&os=2100&lang=en

is the latest (for the HematiteXL) BIOS update. 5.07.

Thank you,
-Jeremy

p.s. Thank you very much! I really have pulled out a bit of hair over this.

I try, my friend.

You do not need a similar board , merely one that supports the processor you want and is the matching bios type (like ami , award etc)

So i went over to gigabyte , went on the CPU Support List , put in the AMD Athlon II X2 250 , found a board that supports it , got the latest bios for that board , extracted the ACPI tables and AGESACPU.ROM out of it and replaced them into the latest v5.07 bios for the HP HematiteXL , using the link that you gave me!

So in thory , your new bios can support anad indentify the following AMD Cpu's :-

Quote:AMD Engineering Sample
AMD Processor model unknown
AMD Single-Core Processor
AMD Dual-Core Processor
AMD Triple-Core Processor
AMD Quad-Core Processor
Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor 12
Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor 22
Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor 82
AMD Opteron™ Processor 22
AMD Sempron™ Processor
Mobile AMD Sempron™ Processor
AMD Sempron™ Processor 1
AMD Sempron™ Processor 2
AMD Sempron™ Dual Core Processor
AMD Sempron™ Dual Core Processor TJ
AMD Sempron™ Processor LE-1
AMD Turion™ 64 Mobile Technology MK
AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL
AMD Turion™ Neo X2 Dual Core Processor L6
AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor
AMD Athlon™ 64 FX
AMD Athlon™ Processor 1
AMD Athlon™ Dual Core Processor
AMD Athlon™ Processor LE-1
AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor
AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor TK
AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Processor
AMD Athlon™ X2 Dual Core Processor L3
AMD Athlon™ X2 Dual Core Processor BE-2

AMD Athlon™ Processor L1
AMD Athlon™ Neo Processor MV
AMD Athlon™ Neo X2 Dual Core Processor
AMD Athlon™ Neo X2 Dual Core Processor L3
AMD Athlon™ Processor TF

Good Luck!
