Yeah, I know how to extract the ROM file the EXE. Use WinRAR. The problem I had was I couldn't see in HPs EXE and actuall .ROM or .WPH file.

Is there any .BIN file in it? Please upload the EXE files to www.mediafire.com. I'll check it for you.

The F.22 contain Insyde BIOS file. Which means it is not for your notebook.

The F.21 contain Phoenix BIOS file but there are three BIOS files in it:-

1. 309DF21.P20
   
2. 309DF21.P21
   
3. 309EF21.P20
   

(Rename them to .ROM or .WPH if you like.)

I don't know which one is for your notebook though. There is a "flash1.ini" file which contain some configuration which tell the WinPhlash tool which BIOS file will be use for BIOS flash.

Cool, so I just rename it to .ROM.... However like you warned me... If this doesn't work I mess up my Laptop, right?
EDIT: No Good. It just rebooted and now beeps 3 times with blank screen. Then the 3 beeps repeat ever so often. Guess there is no way to fix it now.

To recover your notebook, you'll need USB floppy drive, floppy disk & CRISIS package.

How to create CRISIS disk:-
- Download the CRISIS package & extract all of the contents.
- Rename your F.17 BIOS from 3081F17.WPH to BIOS.WPH.
- Copy your BIOS.WPH & put it in the CRISIS folder, replace the existing BIOS.WPH file in the CRISIS folder.
- Make sure create CRISIS disk in Windows XP or it won't work.
- Create CRISIS disk using floppy disk by executing the WINCRIS.EXE.
- Follow on screen instruction.

How to recover your HP notebook:-
1. Disconnect the AC adapter
2. Remove the battery
3. Plugged in the USB floppy drive & insert the CRISIS disk
4. Hold down the keyboard windows key + 'B' (Win + B)
5. Connect the AC adapter. Do not release Win + B yet.
6. Turn on the notebook with the power button. Do not release Win + B yet.
7. When you see system is accessing the floppy disk, release windows key + 'B'.
8. Let it run for 15 minutes.
9. If after 15 minutes it doesn't restart or shutdown itself, power it off manually. Power on the notebook & if it is successful, your notebook should boot normally.

I don't have a USB Floppy drive. I realized you replied a hopeful recovery method. I installed WinXP in a Virtual Machine, since I recently upgraded my main computer to Windows 7 Professional 64Bit... On the VMWare machine downloaded CRISIS. I noticed it had an option for using Removable Media, so I used my old 250 Meg USB Drive. Tried booting the DV4130us using the Windows + B trick and it did nothing. :-( Anything else I might try?

Thanks for you help. I got a USB Floppy Drive and formatted a HD 3.5" disk with the CRISIS Disk. I kept trying to perform this according to your instructions. However the computer also kept trying to boot from the broken DVD/CD-Rom Drive. I decided to remove the DVD/CD-Rom Drive, and while I was at it removed the Hard Drive. Now I'm trying without another drive except the USB Floppy Drive. My only question is this.... Shouldn't it be like reading floppy constantly? You know what I mean? Making drive noises and such?

Yes, the floppy drive should make noises while reading the floppy disk. It should be two stages:-

1. First stage, you should hear noises from the floppy drive while it reading the content of the floppy disk. It load the BIOS image to memory. It should be reading approximately less than 1 minutes. If it just read a couple of seconds & stop, that means the Boot Block unable to find the CRISIS disk. Usually means the CRISIS disk is not created properly.
   
2. Second stage (last part), everything silent. This is when BIOS recovery in progress. This is when you need to wait for it to reboot/shutdown automatically OR wait at least 15 minutes before power off the computer manually. If at the first stage, it just read a couple of seconds & stop, the second stage is not triggered.

Thank you so much! I finally had to borrow an old Gateway with Windows 98 on it from a co-worker. He told me he had a new floppy drive in the machine that he never used after he replaced machine with a newer desktop. I created the Crisis disk using the CRISDISK.BAT under a boot to DOS in Windows 98. I created 2 recovery disks. The first floppy said it completed, however during the format it only had 1.32 Meg and some bad sectors. I tried using it while creating the second disk. The second disk had no errors during format and created perfectly. The first disk went about half way through the process and stopped. The second disk went through the whole process and completed. I was finally happy to see my laptop reboot after being a dead paper weight for a little over 5 months. Thank you again!
