HP DX2300 45nm CPU unlock
#21
Have you any Pentium E5x00 or Celeron E3x00?
Do you know any motherboard based on 946GZ with official support of 45-nm CPU?

I just pulled a Pentium E5300 (SLGTL) from my scrap bin. Just tested it to be good. I do not know of any 946gz boards that support a 45nm cpu. I do have a Intel DQ45CB board that supports 45nm and 65nm cpus, but not Pentium D or Pentium 4 cpus. Kinda thinking it would be easier to have a newer board support older cpus.

Try to boot with it on this motherboard.

I just tried and it does not work. No bios beep codes or display. Only gets a little bit warmer than room temp.

So BIOS patch will not help.

To xsparexstewx:
Are you checked this patched bios ?

SamirD, can you test modified bios. Update with Bootblock for pass of Wolfdale cpu core.

Good  day! I test this bios, computer start  correctly, but  cache size  in bios is 0kb.  I  test E5300 and E7500 CPU.
UPD. E7500  working at  1600 MHz.

Hi, I flashed the modified bios from this post and board successfully started with C2D E7500 and also with Pentium E6500, but there is one problem - the frequency multiplier is stuck at x6 value, which causes the CPU not working at full speed. Is there any way to fix the multiplier at the bios level? I attach the CPU-Z txt report if it helps somehow.

Hi, with original HP v1.14 bios. CPU-Z reports:
MSI 0a90; 946pl/gz rev C1; 82801gb(ich7/r) rev A1; w83627dhg
Phoenix MS7336 1.14 2008/11/24

With dx2300 hp v1.14 bios:
e2140 6x-8x200 1.6Ghz ok cpuz v2.1 w7 benchmark: 282/142 (original CPU)
cl 420 8x200 1.6Ghz   bench: 135/133
e6400 6-8x 266 2.13 378/189 [stress 46ºC proper fan]
e3300, e5200, e7200, e7500, q8300: NO boot

With modified ROM taken from this thread (temperatures are under stress test with bad pasive disipator)
cl 420 x8 1.6Ghz ok 135/133  100º
e7500  fixed at 6x266 1.6 [instead of 11x266=2.93] 284/140 77ºC
e7200  fixed at 6x266 1.6 [instead of 9.5x266=2.53] 285/143 99ºC / 47º proper fan
cl e3300  fixed at 6x200 1.2 [instead of 12.5x200=2.5] 212/104 69ºC
p e5200  fixed at 6x200 1.2 [instead of 12.5x200=2.5] 213/105 68ºC

So all these work equal or slower than original e2140.
Only CPU better than that one is q6600 that also works with unmodified BIOS.
Unless an utility can unlock slow multiplier, changing CPU makes no sense here.
