Help me get Windows XP install on HP G42-410US. SATA/AHCI mod needed.
#1
Hi,

I just got by new HP laptop and planed to install windows XP on it but it does not let me. I get a blue screen when the first message ("to set up windows xp now press enter") is about to open. The error message say: 0x000007b

What i tried:
1: slipstreaming sata drivers in to xp and using the USB floppy. That did not work.
2:Using different windows xp cds did not work.
3: Updated the bios did not help.

I googled a lot and it seems that the cause of the problem is BIOS. It does not have an option to change the SATA mode. I believe there should be an option between IDE/AHCI mode in the bios.

If someone could mod the bios that would be awesome. If there is a ways to get xp to work please let me know how to.

Link to the BIOS file:

Thank you all.

I just flashed the laptop with the moded bios but there was no change at all. Still have the same problem. Looked for setting in the bios but everything is still the same. No options to change in the bios.

Device manager says: intel® series 4 port sata ahci controller. Not sure if it was like that the whole time.

Thanks for trying TTAV134. Hope we find a way to get XP working.

really bad I've usually 100% of success with this kind of mod.
i would like to have a look again but i need your help, there is 3 different bios files in this package, can give the model of your machine, is it 1425, 1484 or 21484, this information can probably be found in main page of bios setup.

thanks

Update:

I just reinstalled windows 7 64bit and while installing the drivers i looked at device manager and under>
IDE ATA/ATAPI controller it says:
ATA Channel 0
ATA Channel 1
Intel ® 5 Series /3400 Series Chipset family 4 port SATA AHCI Controller 3B29
...........................................................................................................................................................
I tried installing windows XP once again but had the same BSOD problem.
One thing I did not try was a USB Windows XP stick!
Booting from Windows XP USB stick worked but windows was unable to detect my hard drive.
I tryed again with SATA drivers using USB Floppy by pressing f6 button. Windows was still unable detect my hard driveSad
I don't understand why this is happening. I tried SATA drivers from intel and hp and it still does not work.

Could some one please post a link to proper SATA Drivers for my laptop?

It uses Intel HM55 Chipset. I have a WD 80GB for testing at the moment. Original drive it Toshiba 320GB. Same results with both hard drives.

All I need is a proper SATA Driver and I should be good with this crap.

Thanks......

check under other working OS what device id have your hardware then compare with what is in .inf files of drivers.
Usual in .inf is this
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3B22&CC_0106.DeviceDesc = "Intel® 5 Series/3400 Series SATA AHCI Controller"
is that hardware id of your controller?
If yes then could be a problem of coruppted drivers.
3B29 is "Intel® 5 Series 4 Port SATA AHCI Controller"
If drivers are loaded and disk still not detected ...

I took a picture of Device ID. Not sure how to compare it to .inf files.

I used the drivers from Intel: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchRe...es+Chipset

Does everything look OK?

Device id is 3B29 and exist in inf.
Read section " 5.3 Pre-Installation Using the F6 Method." from F6Readme.txt
And when prompted choose "Intel® 5 Series 4 Port SATA AHCI Controller"
These steps result from readme.txt, I never used that way (I use n-lite to slipstream drivers or switch to AHCI after installation in IDE mode)

f6flpy-x86.zip is working for xp ,vista,2003,w7 so must work.

I finally got it to work. I used the latest version of nLite and SATA drivers from Intel site. When choosing drivers I selected "IntelĀ® 5 Series 4 Port SATA AHCI Controller" and clicked next and create an image. Burned it to CD-R, put it into the drive and everything went as smooth as butterSmile

Installing the OS at the moment. I can't believe it.

Thank you all!
