Lenovo Legion 5 15ITH6H – “Device Freeze” screen (possible Absolute/Computrace) – ca
#1
Hello everyone,
I’m trying to learn how to properly dump the BIOS from my Lenovo Legion 5 15ITH6H (Intel i7 11th gen platform) and I’d like some guidance to make sure I do it correctly.
Laptop details:
  • Model: Legion 5 15ITH6H
  • CPU: Intel Core i7 11th Gen

My goal is only to obtain a clean full dump to provide in a repair thread.
Any guidance or confirmed procedure for this model would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you ?

Hello everyone,
I’m fairly new to BIOS/firmware topics and I’m facing an issue with my Lenovo Legion 5 15ITH6H laptop.
Device details:
  • Model: Legion 5 15ITH6H
  • S/N: PE09EVFP
Issue:
The laptop was working normally, but after being powered off for a long period, it started showing a white screen with the message “Device Freeze”, without much additional information.
After discussing with some friends, one hypothesis is that this might be related to Absolute/Computrace (possibly triggered after long inactivity or some kind of remote lock).
Questions:
  1. Is this “Device Freeze” screen typically related to Absolute/Computrace on this model?
  2. Is it possible to resolve this by reflashing the BIOS and/or EC?
  3. If yes, which dumps/files would be needed (BIOS dump, EC dump, serial, UUID, etc.)?
  4. Is there any significant risk of bricking the motherboard during this procedure?
If anyone has experience with this model or this specific issue, I’d really appreciate guidance on the safest way to proceed.
Thank you in advance.

Update:

I was able to obtain the dumps from the laptop.

I have attached a ZIP archive containing the following files:

full dump (24 MB)

BIOS region (16 MB)

MB/EC dump (8 MB)

All files were read directly from the device and packaged together for analysis.

Please let me know if any additional dumps or formats are required.

Thank you.

Hi, from the BIOS dump there doesn’t appear to be anything wrong or corrupted. The issue might be elsewhere. You can try resetting the CMOS and doing a fresh Windows installation. If the problem still persists, let me know if you want to try a BIOS mod and ME cleaning. Since the ME region and BIOS region are stored in separate EEPROMs, you will need a flash programmer to do it.

From this dump, is it possible to verify whether any Absolute/Computrace components are present or provisioned in the firmware?

I completely formatted the machine and also removed/invalidated the rpcnet files, and currently the system appears to be working normally. I disabled Windows Update.

Could this possibly be some kind of remote lock tied to the Windows serial/activation? If I change the Windows serial or reinstall with a different license, could that prevent the issue from returning?

This case is quite strange, since the “Device Freeze” screen only appeared after Windows boot, not at firmware level.

Any insight would be appreciated.
