Lenovo Thinkcentre m55 pentium e5200 missing bios
#1
Question
Hi there, I have a request for a modded BIOS for my Lenovo machine. It is an older type and I wanted to know if anyone here would be able to modify it to update the Intel microcode as at present it is only able to use a 2.4ghz older style CPU and I would like to add a much bigger one. The machine has the ability to run a 1066mhz bus and there are much better CPU's than the E6 series. any help would be appreciated.

Manufacturer : IBM
Model : M55-8813-B44
Bios Revision : 2JKT49
Bios Link : http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/...jj949a.iso
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/...jjt49a.exe
Bios Type : Phoenix
CPU Socket: 775

I have ibm lenovo thinkcentre m55 type 8805
specs: https://support.lenovo.com/hr/hr/documents/migr-65779
bios: http://support.lenovo.com/hr/hr/products...s/DS014956

Tried just for fun q6600 and e8xxx and ofc it wont work because higher fsb, didnt even post, just cpu fan at max.
Then i bought E 5200 (fsb800) which should work because it says on official website that it supports E 6600 which has even higher fsb,
and : ''Supports Intel® Pentium® D processors with 800MHz FSB and 2x1MB L2 cache''

It posts, but i get error
0167 no processor BIOS update found
*error boot sequence will be taken if no selection is made
But it wont boot to windows, just black screen, i can see my new cpu in bios with new multicore opttions

I belive thinkcentre a57, m57e / m58 support e5200 cpu, but they are g31 chipset, not q965 like mine
bios: http://support.lenovo.com/hr/hr/products...s/DS003243

What can be done to make it work?

Can you boot in native DOS with E5200? Have you any supported CPU?
BTW, this CPU is Pentium Dual-Core with Wolfdale core, not Pentium D.

What is native dos? It posts i can enter bios setup and stuff, look at screenshots.
I have celeron 430 which works fine, i'm constantly switching between them trying to do something but nothing works.
BIOS knows i have pentium e 5200, but it says cpu microcode not found and i can't boot to windows. F1 setup F2 continue but black screen.

For example: How to Create a Bootable DOS USB Drive.
And you can use Intel BIOS Implementation Test Suite to load microcode before Windows start. Tip: boot BITS in non-EFI mode, use syslinux to make usb device bootable.
Just coping latest microcode.dat (from Intel site) to /boot/mcu, boot with BITS and go to Start menu->Configure Menu->Load microcode.
Then return to first menu and press Boot first drive MBR.
BTW I used small old version (295).

"Q6600 and E8xxx" need BSEL mod to boot up.
E.g. Intel LGA775 Pad Modding
You need change BSEL2 to Low. You may shortcut BSEL2 to BSEL1.

Thanks for that, i will do my best to try it, does sound a bit advanced :p
I know what rufus is i use it for windows instalation.
So i create that intel bios impl..... bootable with rufus and than boot from that device, that much i can do no problem, but after that i am in a bit of a loss.
Can you explain it further like i'm  someone stupid? :p

And what you said about those higher fsb cpus possibly modded to run on my crappy lenovo mbo is totally advanced and cool stuff :p But wont bother with it right now but i sure as [censored] will bookmark this post. I have xeon x5450 laying around that should have gone in gigabyte mbo i have but its pcie16x got damaged durring transport. U think its even possible to mod such high fsb cpu to work on this mbo? Meeeh nvm that, i will be just happy if i can make this pentium dualcore that i have work

There are two safety ways:
1. Create bootable DOS USB drive (by rufus). Copy some needed files to it, boot from it with E5200 and run flasher.
2. Create bootable USB drive with BITS (by syslinux). Copy microcode.dat, boot from it with E5200, load microcode, load Windows, run flasher with additional files.
What the way you prefer?
