Lenovo W500 Bios Mod request!
#1
Hi,

this is my first topic on this board. I found this forum trough the web and Im hoping to find someone who can help me.
Ive got a Thinkpad W500 notebook and I would like to upgrade it with a qx9300 Cpu. Ive bought
already the cpu, but when its installed the laptop only starts for a second and the turn off.

Ive talked to a guy from lenovo support and he told me the bios of W500 doesnt support the
id for the qx9300 for this reason it has to be integrated to the bios.
He also told me to try putting the W700
Bios on my machine because the W700s bios support qx9300 but it could brick the
board... For this reason Im not ready to flash W700 bios on it...

Ive already uncompressed the bios of W700 and W500 and splitted it into modules.

Im searching for someone who can add the support to the bios of my W500. Im able to
unpack and split the bioses of W500 and W700 into *.rom files but editing them i cant...

You can follow my other conversation here:

If some is here and able to do this I would be very happy and recompense his work!

THANKS

Ps.: Sorry for my english Im not a native speaker :-)

Hi 7up,

Sorry for such a long wait, we have been short staffed and I do way to many things in a day Smile Anyways I am really interested in this. First off, do you have a copy of the official support list of CPUs. Second off, your forum suggests that those ROMs are two different bos types, so I dont know why you would compare them?

Hi TheWiz,

no problem, here is the list of the offical cpus which where from lenovo installed on the w500

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.w...#processor

I dont know why but in the maintance manual on page 204 a quite more cpus like t9900

http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/...630_04.pdf

Even the x9100 is supported

http://www.google.de/search?hl=de&client=firefox-a&hs=75o&rls=org.mozilla%3Ade%3Aofficial&q=x9100+w500&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=

Im really not a bios expert or something else therefore I dont know what to do know but the bios of w700 support the qx9300 for this reason I thought it would help to compere them?

The bios of my w500 can be found here

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.w...MIGR-70354

Ive already decompressed it and split it in two different ways (by tools of zender and by a tool called pheonix bios mod)...

The first way gives me 60 files lixe acpi01 02 all ending .rom and the second way gives about 234 files with different endings (.rom, .bin, .pei, .aml, .ff, .idb ...)

It would be very nice to get this qoud core running :-D
