Hello everyone,
I am looking for some advanced assistance with a severe ACPI/hardware identification issue on my Lenovo Yoga 500 after a complex OS setup and firmware flashing timeline. My discrete GPU is currently failing to initialize properly, and I suspect my ACPI tables or motherboard variables are deeply tangled.
Hardware Specifications:
Laptop Model: Lenovo Yoga 500-14ISK
Motherboard: LT41_SKL_MB 14292-1 (Skylake platform)
Processor: Intel Core i5 (6th Gen Skylake)
Integrated Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 520
Discrete Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 920M
Current BIOS Version: D3CN39WW (Official Lenovo Release)
System MTM: 80R5003HUK
The Timeline & Problem Description:
Origin: I originally acquired this machine with a ChromeOS variant installed.
First OS Deployments: I clean-installed Windows 10 and Ubuntu 22.04. At this stage, the NVIDIA 920M card was cleanly detected and worked perfectly under Windows.
The Failed Update: I attempted a BIOS update to D3CN39WW. The update failed midway, leaving the discrete GPU in a state where it was detected by the OS but completely non-functional (Code 43 / Resource issues).
FydeOS & Multi-Boot: I later installed FydeOS alongside my existing setup. After this step, the machine completely stopped reading or enumerating the NVIDIA card entirely across all installations (wiped and reinstalled Windows 10, Windows 11, and Ubuntu 22.04 multiple times).
EFI Cleansing: Realizing that the multi-boot environment used
rEFInd
(via FydeOS) and that its custom NVRAM/boot configuration is known to conflict with dual-GPU switching paths, I completely formatted the EFI partition to fully purge
rEFInd
from the system.
DMI Fixing: Due to the prior failed flash, my motherboard strings were corrupted, showing an "Invalid" Machine Type Model (MTM). I used the Lenovo U1 Tool to restore my valid configuration strings, successfully flashing my correct MTM:
80R5003HUK
.
Current State: Because the MTM is fixed, the official Lenovo D3CN39WW installer now completes 100% cleanly without errors. However, the NVIDIA card is still stuck in a broken state (installed driver manually as it isn't detected natively and currently throwing Code 31 / failing to map memory resources cleanly in UEFI mode). Now neither Linux nor Windows picks it up when it did before as shown in the attached images.
Linux lspci Output: lspci | grep -i nvidia in the terminal returns absolutely nothing.
Current BIOS Settings:
Graphics Device: Set to [Discrete]
Secure Boot: [Disabled]
OS Optimized Defaults: [Disabled]
What I need help with:
Since the firmware flashes successfully now but the operating systems still fail to correctly initialize communication with the PCIe rails for the 920M, I believe the ACPI tables (DSDT/SSDT) or variable allocations are permanently broken or hard-locked from the previous interrupted flash and multi-boot configurations.
Can someone help me modify or patch a clean dump of the
D3CN39WW or if they have another version I could roll back to besides the D3CN35WW
firmware to forcefully rebuild the discrete GPU power rails/ACPI routing tables? I have access to command-line flashing tools and can provide raw dumps if needed.
Thank you for any insight or guidance!
P.S: a random linux prompt:
