Lenovo z580 PXE-E61 Media Test Error (can't access UEFI/BIOS either)
#1
Rainbow
Hi all, I'm in trouble with the boss (wife), so would really appreciate your help.

I wanted to upgrade the HDD in her z580 to an SSD and bought a Samsung 750 Evo 500gb SSD.

Basically, I've cloned the original drive to the SSD but don't think I've done it properly and the laptop won't boot into the OS (Win10). I got the "PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable" error. After a Google, thought changing the SSD to be first in boot sequence would fix it. It didn't (could be because the cloned disk image is duff). Googled some more and changed some setting (in the Novo Setup Menu) either to or from ACHI/Legacy?

Now the laptop gives me the same PXE-E61 error with both the original HDD and the SSD.

I'm no longer able to get into the BIOS/settings, or in fact any of the three options (Enter Setup Menu / Enter Boot Manager / Enter One Click Recovery) presented when starting the laptop with the Novo button.

I assume I need to reflash the BIOS in some way, but I'm unable to get into Windows 10 to do this.

I saw that @LosSantosPro had suggested a fix for someone in a similar situation, but don't understand what I need to do.

I really don't want to have to send the laptop back to Lenovo for an out of warranty repair, as my wife needs her laptop for preparing her lessons (she's a teacher).

Any suggestions would be hugely hugely appreciated.

Hi i got the same Problem yesterday.
Here is my Solution:
- First: you need another Computer/Laptop/whatever with Windows on it and a LAN cable.
- Install CCBoot (trial version) Server Mode. (CCBoot 2016 Build 1121)
- Configure it like in the pictures. We have a DHCP Server (192.168.1.1, gateway and DNS are both the same) with Port 4011. The Boot Timeout and Passwort was not nessesary i think but we did this anyway with "1234", just a dummy password.
- Remember: You need to Configure your Ethernet Adapter to 192.168.1.1.

- Download Windows 7 PE (https://mega.nz/#!ClBkjCYA!30-3zfbOEVOMX...1B9dMhkOeU)
- create a VHD (This is a virtual Disk in Windows) Google for it, i just have a link in my native language (http://www.giga.de/downloads/windows-7/t...-8-und-10/)
- Use the VHD (so it shows in "my Computer") and put the "7pe_amd64_E.iso" into the VHD. In my Case i use the Letter "O" and gave it the Type Image. My normal Disk i gave the Type Write Back (because the VHD file was on this drive). Im not sure if the Name of the VHD matters but i used "DHCP". After this i go into Image Manager and used the Image on my New Drive "O" and gave it a Name and a path.

- Connect both Laptops with the LAN cable and Boot the Lenovo Computer up. (Tip: Disable ALL Firewalls on your Second Computer, just in case). When you see the Computer in your overview use this configuration (under "PXE" use isoboot and under "Image" your Windows 7 PE iso file)

- The Lenovo Computer should boot the PE Image from your second Computer and your in business.
- Then Download (http://support.lenovo.com/de/de/products...beta=false
                - BIOS Update for Windows 7 (32-bit), Windows 8 (32-bit) - IdeaPad Z380, Z480, Z580 (5fcn95ww_public 32bit)
- Put it on a USB Stick and use this file on your Lenovo Laptop to do a BIOS Update. Your Computer will momentarily should down and you will think ohmygod what happend, but it will reboot the BIOS Update will be done and after that everything will work again.

I hope this will work for you too.
Good Luck Smile
