MCP61SM-AM (T180)
#1
OK so I posted this to the actual threads with no replies, so I am starting a new request with the hopes that somebody can shed some light on it for me.

I have an Aspire T180. From what I understand it has about the same Foxconn or ECS motherboard (MCP61SM-AM). I flashed the bios using the flash on the Acer website R01-C0. It took the flash, but I don't see any options whatsoever for overclocking. I currently have an Athlon 64 4000+ CPU. Without problems, what is the fastest CPU that I can effectively run on this without having to change the motherboard? Acer will not tell me anything useful about the motherboard and Foxconn will not tell me anything at all about it. Hundreds of $$$ later I am still playing trial and error with the RAM. Also, I see that this thread's heading is "Acer Aspire E380 R01-C0 With Unlocked Overclocking Options", so does that mean that there is a modded version of this BIOS available for download somewhere? A few of you mentioned an Abit BIOS. Is that one actually better? Where do I find the best BIOS for this machine and a tutorial on exactly how to do this using a flash card or usb card in DOS? Any help is much appreciated. I have been looking over this thread since I was given this PC a while back and you guys seem to be brilliant, but unfortunately there are alot of areas that are not put into simplistic terms that all can understand. I just want to get the most that I can possibly get out of this system because I will be giving it to my son after I build a Bulldozer based system.

Thanks in advance

answer flash with: bios protect off and write protect off in bios option
http://www.bios-mods.com/bios-update/
see attachment
use win flash at your own risk
no overclock
on power back-up if possible

what is your memory

-go into the advance chipset feature setting
-sata and pciE spread spestrum disable
-16x 16x
-multi for HT 4X
-Dram at max MEM clock

-Adv.BIOS Feat.
- cpu feature VID and CPU multi

Power managment K* cool and QUIET OFF "important or no overclock

start at 215
will report at 203-205 wit cpu-z

I'm with 2 ddr2 512MB 333 @ 386
2 ddr2 1GB 400 @ 386
fsb 247 in bios 245 with cpu-z
athlon 64 x2 3600+ 1.9
now 2.33 ghz undervolted at 1.225 stock125

now start increasing your FSB with vcore stock
( from CPU-z )in manual mode and multi max if you want heat

hw monitor and CPU-z(this one will show bios version in motherboard )
intel burn test and prime 95
memtest 86+

3-5 itération of Intel burn test and increase more, more, and more
if it says cpu safe mode or it dont report in cpu-z
shut it off 20 sec and reboot
and I mean hard off, go with the PSU swith

I've got the same system, have had it since '07. I started out with :
Amd athlon 64 x2 4400+ , 1gb 533.

I have since went down to a Amd athlon 64 3200+ (traded to help a friend out) But upgraded to :

Amd Athlon 64X2 5000+ [ADO5000IAA5DO], 2gb (2x1) ddr2 8500 , Nvidia GeForce GT220 1gb

I have absolutely no complaints ! I wanted to basically max out it's potential since Im on a budget & did all this for under $125. This setup is very responsive, and i do some (LIGHT) Photoshop & Cinema 4d work.

If you want to get the max out of that socket i think the highest you can go is :
socket AM2
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+
1gb DDR2 Pc-8500 (per channel)

I put 8gb of pc2 6400 in this sucker and it woke it up. bios is tricky with this one flash with winflash with write block on and it will brick it luckily the bios chip is socketed and 10.00 free shipping put it back in business with the latest ver. bios.
recognizes 6600+

Hey, old thread and sorry to resurrect but this worked for me on an old Aspire T180 I was given. Nice to have a fully "unlocked" BIOS.

Thanks!

Make sure to back up old BIOS first.
