MSI MS-7525 (Boston)
#1
Hi Guys,

Got a DX2420 and I would like to have the bios unlocked. Actually main thing I want is to be able to turn VT on, but the other options would come in handy as well.

Tried to follow the guide to do it myself, but the biosmenu displayed by modbin6 2.01.02 seems to be somewhat off. Also tried newer versions of modbin6 (2.04 and 2.03) but they either crash or dont finish loading.

If you could manage it would be great Smile

link to a backup of my bios:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/136127/HP_DX2420_5_20.BIN

EDIT:
Just to make clear: It's an HP DX2420, but as far as I've been able to find there has been no official biosupdate made available for this model. Thats why I linked a backup of my own bios.

EDIT2:
Seems I missed out on a bit:
Mainboard: ms-7525
This is also used in HP Pavilion a6719de which does have a bios update. This is found here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-73126-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=2093&product=3913330

I've extracted the bin from the exe file but it still gives the same problems (at least for my untrained eye) as the previous one. I did update my bios to this version (5.22) without issue, sadly it still doesnt allow me to turn VT on

Hi

Sorry to bring bad news but iafter successfully managing to open up the bios for editing , there wasnt anything wortwhile to unlock , just some extra drive information. there were no overclocking options at all and it seems that VT is already available under the power menu (Intel Virtualization Technology). Remember that for VT to enable , you have to have a CPU that supports VT and an OS that supports VT. Once a supported CPU is detected , you should be able to switch it on and off using the bios option

Thank you for replying and trying. The cpu is an e7400 2.8 Ghz Core2Duo cpu which should support VT. I installed ESXi4 (update 1, with a custom oem.tgz for the nic) and when I try to install a x64 linux os (centos 5.4 x64) it says my pc doesnt support it.

Guess it means my only alternative is to replace the MB.

Again thanks for trying

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but after looking through the BIOS there isn't much to unclock except for IDE options which aren't even used these days. It's interesting though that the menu's are juggled around so in modbin. In any event, if you have a spare chip and want to test some retail candidates I'll be happy to prepare tests.

so I would have buy a new processor? to do these test's? because I do not have a spare chip unfortunately. And that blows I was hoping for some ocing options

To test someting and be failsafe you wouldn't buy a new proccessor, you would by a new BIOS chip to tes. But i looked at the menus and they are really bare so the testing is a up in the air solution that may or may not be worth it

there aren't any boards similar to this one that could unlock overclocking options? and how would I go about getting a spare bios chip?
