Need Unlock BIOS Asus S551LB
#11
(08-12-2016, 02:15 AM)nnvt Wrote: I modded your BIOS, I enabled all options that I could enable and I attempted to enable the chipset tab as well (you'll have to flash the BIOS to see if it's there or not)

First of all: I am not responsible for any damage you do to your laptop by flashing this BIOS, understand that if your BIOS gets corrupted somehow, it will result in a brick!

Requirements:
AfuWin 3.05.04 > Download
A backup of your original rom
The modified rom > Download

Extracting AfuWin:
  1. Open up "AMIBIOS_and_Aptio_AMI_Firmware_Update_Utility.zip"
  2. Go to "amiflash>Aptio>afuwin>64>afuwin64.zip
  3. Extract the afuwin64 folder somewhere

Backup your original rom:
  1. Open a command prompt as admin in the Afuwin64 folder you just extracted
  2. Type "AFUWINx64.exe backup.rom /O" (without quotes)
  3. Save the generated file somewhere safe so you can still access it if you pc won't boot

Installing modified rom:
  1. Make sure your laptop is plugged in
  2. Close all windows
  3. Disable your antivirus
  4. If you have windows 10, make sure no updates are pending (so it doesn't auto restart during the flash)
  5. Copy the modified rom you downloaded to the Afuwin64 folder
  6. Make sure that the modified rom you copied is EXACTLY 6293504 bytes
  7. Go back to the admin command prompt in your Afuwin64 folder
  8. Type "AFUWINx64.exe S551LBUnlocked.bin /GAN"
  9. If you get any sort of error like size mismatch, DO NOT flash the bios
  10. Press Y when prompted
  11. Restart your laptop and see if it worked

Please post your results here if everything went well or something went wrong

Hello nnvt!
First of all, thank you alot for your kind help, before i go ahead and flash this bios mod, mind I ask of how much certain are you that this mod will work the way it's expected to? how safe this is? is there a way to debrick/unbrick the BIOS if it does not respond after the flash?
Thank you, I am sorry for questioning your work but It's better to be safe than sorry.

Thank you, I am sorry for questioning your work but It's better to be safe than sorry.

The bios size is the same as the original and was modded using ami's own tools so it should work fine and will only brick your pc if flashed incorrectly / Something went wrong with the flash (like windows 10 restarting) and as long as afuwin doesn't report any size mismatch errors you should be alright (if you attempt to flash it and it says something about a size mismatch, don't flash it!)

I used the same method as on my Asus N551VW and it worked for me.

About the recovery, I don't know... I've tried this on my own Asus N551VW and ctrl + home seems to do "something" (boots into bios, might trigger if a bios rom is put on a usb drive). So it's always a good idea to keep a backup rom that you got from afuwin on an external drive or something!

There's a mismatch.. can someone give me a link on how to mod it by myself? or mod it for me?

So I went ahead and unlocked the BIOS by myself.. this time, no checksum mismatch, thank you very much.
Unlocking with the simple tool AMIBCP did not unlock the hidden Chipset menu so I went ahead and used the UEFI Tools and HxD to unlock it.

All the menus were unlocked including the hidden Chipset menu which contains the Graphics options.

Unlocked BIOS Image: https://www.solidfiles.com/v/xqW2kPGAWXnPA

This Image is safe to use, I have flashed it and I confirm it is working perfectly fine.
use AFUWINGUI to flash the image.
