[QUESTION] Why do some cards require taping pin 20?
#1
Hello,
First I want to say thanks! I am currently using a intel 6250 which is absolutely not on the whitelist for my HP dv6t 6100 with F1B bios. At first I tried using the sp55068_NWL_ByCamiloml.exe. Everything flashed fine, but I still got an error on bootup complaining about the wimax built in with the wifi. I wasn't sure, but I suspected that maybe there was a check for authorized wimax as well as wifi. I then tried the sp55068_NWL_vHARD_ByCamoloml.exe. This time, I was able to succesfully bootup, but it appeared as if the card was in a permanent "off" state. It showed up in device manager, but network and sharing said it was turned off. The hardware wifi button (f12) was indicating wifi was off, and clicking it had no effect. Now come the questions:

Why did the vHARD BIOS work when the standard one didn't?

After I added tape to pin 20 (which controls the kill switch of the module) everything worked. Why was the PC trying to have the wifi chip turned off?

Additionally, the hardware wifi button LED is still indicating that the wifi is turned off with an orange light, (a white light indicates wifi is on) while it is in fact clearly working. Is there anyway to restore functionality to this button to at least make it be white instead of orange, even if it has no actual effect on the state of the wifi module?

Again, thanks! I am fairly content now, but if I could have these questions answered I would have full peace of mind!
