[Question] Acer Aspire R7 572G Haswell to Broadwell ULP upgrade?
#1
Hi,
I'm thinking about upgrading the processor on my R7-572G to see if I can get 4k60Hz on the miniDP output (and maybe slightly better performance).

I bought a second hand one to experiment with which has a slightly different CPU. They use either a i7-4500U or a i7-4510U processor currently, and I kinda want to upgrade it to an i7-5650U.

Is this possible, and is modding the BIOS required for upgrading the CPU? What kind of mod is required to be done?

Mainboard tab of CPU-Z does not show any chipset/southbridge/LPCIO information. Is the chipset integrated on the CPU substrate on Haswell/broadwell ULP SKUs?

Also, in a discussion group for the laptop long time ago, I think someone did a CPU upgrade and mentioned a long first boot time after upgrading. I don't remember very well but I think he might have mentioned that's due to the EC firmware detecting something not matching up? Do you think that could happen, what may be the cause and what can be done to remedy that?

Current CPU is soldered to the motherboard.
There is no way to add support of Broadwell to this BIOS.

Thank you for your reply. There are shops specializing in reworking, replacing and upgrading soldered CPUs on laptop so I should be fine on that front.

Why is it that there is no way to add support of Broadwell to the BIOS? Is it because there's no space for newer ME firmware or no space for broadwell integrated graphics VBIOS, or something else?

No way to add.
You can try flashing BIOS from other laptops.
