[REQUEST] ASUS N56VZ BIOS Unlock
#51
After Easy Flash installed the old BIOS it still had the same version installed? So it failed and then went back to the v215 version? Are you sure the version on your bootable flash drive is version 211? Just something to check for. I'm not expert but thought I try and help (I know how it is!)

Hey, thanks for the interest, I spent 2 days in a row trying to figure out why the heck is not downgrading the BIOS. Still haven't found, I tried all older bios versions, no luck with any of them. Any suggestions??

How did u fix yours? How long did Asus take to repair it?

Hi,
for downgrade, use WINFLASH, in windows open RUN, BROWSE and search WINFLASH, found the path, ADD /NODATE.

4) Flash your modded bios -> fpt -f flash.rom -BIOS

The answer to your question, the bios that you have estract and the bios from asus site have different size !

I saw in your signature that you already have the 213 BIOS version. Will that come out eventually? The only reason I wanted to modify the rom is to be able to ajust the memory timings. I recently bought some corsair 2x8GB ddr3 1600 cl10 and with them, the n56vz doesn't even do the POST. Do you think this could solve de problem? Editing the BIOS to see the memory options and set the timings to a specific value?

I had the same problem as you did because I bought the same type of RAM from Amazon. So I tested the Vengeance RAM, and realized that one of the stick of RAM was defective. So I had Amazon replace it, and now my computer is running fine. Also just as a side note, I'm running BIOS 215, in case you were wondering.

To test the RAM, I recommend taking out both of the default RAM, and just place in one stick of the Vengeance RAM and see if your computer runs.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Only one thing will help you - to find somebody with soldering station and programmer, who will dismount BIOS chip, flash it directly and mount back to the motherboard. Of cause in that case you will lose your warranty. Or you can go to official service and tell them that one nice morning your laptop could not turn on. Maybe it will work.

I say that, cause once i killed my BIOS with FTK too. Now my N56VZ works fine on 211 BIOS ver, but there is no keyboard backlight now and i am waiting for the patch.

FTK translation

You should create bootable flash drive which is containing FTK (all software can be downloaded from those site - FTK for dos and Bootable USB Drive Creator) (spoiler 1.1 - creating bootable flash), turn pc off, turn ON button and press esc, change your bootable flash without "UEFI" prefix and finally when boot will be completed type command "fpt -d backup.rom -BIOS".

Thank you.

Thank You very much!

Sorry for that, can You please repeat dumping with "fpt -d backup.rom" command, cause i forgot that "fpt -d backup.rom -BIOS" dumps only BIOS region, and my problem is in another one. Full dump will be about 8.2-8.6 Mb.

And which BIOS ver do You have now?
