[REQUEST] HP dc7600 CMT BIOS Modding for C2D E7400 Support
#1
Hi everyone! I have a HP Compaq dc7600 CMT. Currently it has a Pentium 4 521, 1GB of DDR2, and a 500GB HDD. I wanna upgrade it to something from the Core 2 era as the chipset (945G Express) supports it. I know the VRMs might not support C2Ds and C2Qs, but this can be solved with a pin mod to bypass the VRM checking. However, HP's BIOS does not have the microcode for Conroe, Allendale nor Wolfdale. I have absolutely no idea how to mod the BIOS, and I hope someone here can help me mod it to support C2Ds.  Rolleyes

P.S I have a random C2D E7400 so I would like to use that.

It won't let me upload the latest BIOS, so please download from here and choose 768D1:

Post a screenshot of Mainboard tab of CPU-Z with supported CPU.
Explain exactly what happens when you try to boot with VRM pin mod & E7400.

Well, to even POST, the BIOS needs the microcode, which is why i needed a modded bios.

No, you are wrong.
BTW: adding microcode doesn't add support for new CPUs.

So how would i add support for new cpus? Il try the pin mod i guess.

At first make VRM pin mod and try to boot with Conroe (65-nm).
FSB=800 MHz is recommended.

I only have a Core 2 Duo E7400 ( Wolfdale), so i'll try with that

Carly Fiorina ordered the crew to put that limitation into the BIOS of dc7600 because she wanted you to buy dc7700, and after that, dc7900 if you wanted the top-end of Core 2 Duo. It shouldn't be that hard to remove that woman-made limitation.

dc7600 came with Intel 945G chipset which, according to Intel, can/could handle E7600 ---but not inside a Compaq dc7600.

I have a dc7600 with Pentium 4 D-945, and a dc7900 with Q-9550 (because life is not worth living without a computer with factory floppy drive, and booting DOS on SSD), but, just-because, it would be nice to modify dc7600's bios.
